Despite Memphis leaning on Morant and Bane, Houston’s strong three-point defense and home-court advantage make them likely to cover as Udoka sharpens rotations.

Memphis might be in big trouble with Zach Edey anchoring their post defense. Utah repeatedly put him in actions and generated easy looks. That backdoor alley-oop to Lauri Markkanen floating around Twitter on Wednesday was the direct result of a play design targeting Edey. He froze on the screen and was too slow to recover, as Markkanen flew by him to catch the lob. Edey posted a ridiculous 143.3 defensive rating in his 15 minutes of action. It's a tiny 1-game sample, but Utah was getting whatever they wanted when he was out there. The Jazz scored 56 points in the paint, which would've ranked 2nd in the league last season. Sengun scored nearly 70% of his points from the painted area last season. He got 18.4% of his scoring from the free throw line, and we've already seen Edey have big issues with fouls. I'm expecting Ime Udoka and the Houston offense to target Edey early and often, which should lead to production for Sengun.

The fully healthy Rockets rotation now includes added plus rebounders (Thompson and Eason) and more playmakers (Thompson and Sheppard). In game 1 vs the Hornets (which should have been a plus spot for both rebounds and assists), Green had 2 R+A on 5 total potentials. The spot against the Grizzlies should be a bit tougher - not seeing as much upside.

The Grizzlies look to build off of their first win of the season against the Jazz as they play the Houston Rockets on Friday night. I’m targeting Ja Morant in this spot after his excellent season debut. Morant racked up 10 assists on 19 potentials in Game 1 against the Jazz in just 27 minutes. This line is just too low for the primary offensive engine of the Grizzlies. Hit has now hit this in 9 of his last 10 games while averaging 8.3 assists. This is in line with the full season prior when he was actually healthy and he averaged 8.1 assists in 31.9 minutes. I expect Morant to continue his strong play to start the season.
