On Day 1 of sports betting, Arizona wants to put some money on its hometown team.
Early numbers from BetMGM show that 17.4% of Super Bowl futures bets taken in the first three hours were on the Cardinals to win it all, the most of any team.
Overall, in BetMGM's other 15 states, the Cardinals make up just 1.5% of Super Bowl bets, the 20th-most popular team option.
The Cardinals are abnormally high even in their respective state.
In Indiana, for example, the Colts are the third-most bet team behind the Bucs and the Chiefs, who are No. 1 and No. 2, respectively, in all wagering combined.
The Chiefs are +450 to win the Super Bowl and the Buccaneers are +700. The Cardinals are +3500.
Arizona last made the Super Bowl during the 2008 season, ultimately losing to Ben Roethlisberger and the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The Cardinals haven't clinched a postseason berth since the 2015 campaign and are +175 to make the playoffs this year.
Arizona's win total is currently listed at 8.5. It's the lowest in a cutthroat division featuring three other teams — San Francisco (10.5), Los Angeles (10.5) and Seattle (10) — projected for double-digit wins.
Third-year Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury helped the team surpass its 2020 win total (7) with an 8-8 record. He's been slightly profitable for bettors since taking the position in 2019, going 16-14-1 (53.3%) against the spread.
Arizona gets an intriguing non-conference tilt right out of the gates against the Tennessee Titans. The Cardinals are 3-point underdogs, with a total of 52.5.
