The Royals have relied on the ever-consistent Singer, who sports a 3.38 ERA this season, representing his constant aptitude to keep opponents off the board. While his xERA percentile is just in the 29th and he does create some vulnerability, the results have mostly come out good overall, particularly his low walk rate of 6.5%. Those are numbers that show Singer can work his way through Houston's lineup while limiting the damage pretty well. Though he struggled in his last outing, Singer has been resilient for most of the season, including an early-season start against Houston in which he allowed only one run over five innings.
Meanwhile, Hunter Brown has been one of the most consistent starting pitchers for the Astros this year, posting a respectable 3.72 ERA.
The advanced metrics paint an even clearer picture of his effectiveness, with a minuscule .289 xwOBA and a great xERA, indicating he's been able to inhibit both contact and scoring well. Away from his rough history against the Royals - including that disastrous outing in April - Brown's been in great shape of late, having given up two or fewer earned runs in 12 of his last 14 starts. His ability to bounce back from a poor performance should not go unnoticed, and with the stakes high as Houston looks to secure the AL West, look for Brown to be dialed in. The Astros just came from a dominating win against the Phillies, 10-0; however, the wear and tear of 18 straight games will more than likely pay its dividend in a more conservative approach, particularly with the key hitters. That fatiguing factor along with Brown's recent success and Singer's steadiness points toward a lower-scoring game. In addition, both teams have just been inconsistent offensively with the Royals being middle of the pack.

Royals are just so K resistant - 17.5% on the road the L30 days vs righties. And against power pitchers (which brown is on the fringe of), the Royals have a stingy 22.6% K%.
