With anything but a warm welcome to the Premier League, Ipswich Town will now be taking on the reigning champions, Mn City, on the road in match day 2 of the Premier League. Coming off their first Premier League match in 22 years, Ipswich Town fell short to Liverpool 2-0 after a scoreless first half, which I believe Ipswich will be able to build off of later in their Premier League campaign.

Manchester City are coming off a slow performance against Chelsea. But “slow” for Manchester City was able to land them a 2-0 victory on the road at Stamford Bridge. They definitely didn’t look like themselves, but it sure was enough to beat a team with one of the deepest and most talented rosters in the Premier League.

Let’s get right into my preview for Man City vs Ipswich Town.

Man City Picks

I don’t think much really needs to be said about Manchester City. They have let their winning and success do the talking for them, winning six Premier Leagues and one Champions League in the last decade. Led by star-striker Erling Haaland, Ipswich Town’s plans of man-to-man defense are very likely to be turned on its head.

If there’s one thing Manchester City like doing, it’s beating teams badly, especially lower-tier teams. Last season in the knockout stages of the FA Cup, City managed to beat Burnley in the quarterfinals 6-0 and Sheffield United in the semifinal 3-0. In the Premier League last season they thrashed Fulham 5-1, with a hat-trick from Erling Haaland. Not that a little chaos couldn’t happen, but I imagine Pep Guardiola is chomping at the bit to face this newly promoted Ipswich side.

Ipswich Town Picks

After an admiral first half against Liverpool, holding them scoreless and staying level, Ipswich ended up losing 2-0 thanks to a Mo Salah goal and assist. Despite the multiple goal defeat at home, I did like what I saw out of Ipswich. They did look fairly lively on defense in that first half, successfully playing man-to-man defense, which ultimately backfired in the second half as Liverpool were able to finally break it down.

If Kieran McKenna’s plan is to play another 90-minute man-to-man defense, I expect Ipswich to run into trouble quicker this time around, as Manchester City are a completely different animal.

Prediction

While the oddsmakers have given Ipswich Town a modest price of +2000 on the moneyline, it might be time to get creative with some game and player props for this fixture. The line for Haaland first goal stands out to me at +220, as Haaland has been the first goal-scorer in three of his last five appearances in EPL Saturday home matches.

Another intriguing line is over 3.5 at -124, especially after considering City’s recent form against lower-tier teams in the Premier League. However, one line that really jumps out to me is Manchester City winning both halves at -128. I do believe that this is the safer play, as City were able to win both halves last weekend against Chelsea, and due to the fact that this is only the second game of the season with every team trying to get back into the swing of things. I think City to win both halves has the higher likelihood of hitting, with decent value in return.

Pick: Man City to Win Both Halves (-128 via FanDuel)
