The New Orleans Saints and Arizona Cardinals are making their preseason debuts Saturday night at State Farm Stadium with an 8 p.m. ET kickoff. The Saints are coming off of a 9-8 season, while the Cardinals finished the 2023 campaign with a 4-13 record.

Neither team plans on playing key players in this game, but there are still ways to make the most of this matchup from a betting perspective. Let's get to my Saints vs. Cardinals prediction.

Saints vs. Cardinals Prediction

The quarterback play in this game is going to be subpar at best. I don't expect a high-scoring game with Derek Carr seeing limited action and Kyler Murray not playing. The Saints are 3-point favorites (-3) on the road for Saturday night's game, with the Cardinals +135 to win outright and home and New Orleans -160 on the moneyline. The total is set at over/under 38 points scored by both teams combined.

My Saints vs Cardinals pick? That's on the under. Let's get to my Saints vs Cardinals preview for more.

Monitor the Saints Quarterbacks

Derek Carr remains is the Saints' starting quarterback, but preseason is the perfect time for a backup quarterback competition! Jake Haener and Spencer Rattler will likely see time in this game. This backup quarterback battle is particularly interesting as both players are young and showed flashes of greatness at their respective colleges.

I anticipate Chris Olave being on the field for a drive, as well as running backs Jamaal Williams and Alvin Kamara, but their playing time likely won't extended beyond that. The Saints also bolstered their defense over the offseason with the addition of Chase Young, but it's unlikely that we'll see him on the field for this game given his injury history. The main storyline for the Saints is the backup quarterback competition.

Cardinals' Marvin Harrison Jr. Set to Debut

The Cardinals aren't expected to play many starters during the preseason. This means we won't see Kyler Murray take the field in this game. However, we will see rookie Marvin Harrison Jr. The hype surrounding Harrison has been unparalleled, and Cardinals fans are undoubtedly excited to see the receiver in action.

As for Arizona’s quarterback situation, we may have another backup battle on our hands. Desmond Ridder and Clayton Tune will duke it out for the backup quarterback spot throughout the preseason.

My Saints vs Cardinals Prediction: Bet the Under in Arizona

Cardinals coach Jonathan Gannon went 2-1 in last year’s preseason, while Saints coach Dennis Allen is 7-11 in the preseason over his career. This matchup consists of two teams that already have their starting quarterbacks established. This backup quarterback bout will result in a game full of stalled drives and unsuccessful conversions as Haener, Rattler, Tune and Ridder try to make their case to be second on the depth chart.

I don’t expect there to be a lot of scoring in this matchup.
