NFL Preseason Picks: Expert Eagles vs. Patriots Preview Tonight

NFL Preseason Picks: Expert Eagles vs. Patriots Preview Tonight article feature image

We have one game on the docket tonight in Eagles vs. Patriots. I may have multiple NFL preseason picks for this game by the time it's over, but I have one for now with another look for the second half.

As always, be sure to join our Action Discord as that’s where I’m discussing what I’m looking for/timing for my official plays that I will post in the Action App.

Let's break it all down.

Eagles Preview: First Half

Last week, Nick Sirianni teased us by saying starters might get a couple of drives, but that never happened. It's unlikely this week since the Eagles and Patriots had joint practices this week.

That means we'll see Kenny Pickett for most of the first half tonight. He didn't look great last week against the Ravens, inviting pressure and taking too many sacks. He also has a ton of young and inexperienced pass catchers at his disposal.

Like Philadelphia, the Patriots' second-string defense played very well last week, shutting out the Panthers in the first half. I could see Pickett and the Eagles offense struggling in the first half.

Patriots Preview: First Half

The Patriots will look to see more than one drive from Maye this time. I feel like they limited him last week because of the heavy rain and wet field. We could still see some rain tonight, but it won't be as bad as last week. I expect that he'll come in for Brissett and the starters after a drive or two.

I think there's a chance Maye could struggle against the Eagles pass rush tonight. New England's offensive line struggled last week, which was clear by the eight pressures that Bailey Zappe faced against the Panthers' backup defense.

The Eagles will provide a tougher test tonight, and we may even see starters like Jalen Carter and Jordan Davis up front for a couple of drives. Philadelphia has quality depth and their second unit will feature players like Nolan Smith, Nakobe Dean and Quinyon Mitchell.

I think it'll be tough for the Patriots to put up points in the first half tonight.

Eagles Preview: Second Half

I’m expecting Tanner McKee to start the second half and potentially close out the game, but we should see Will Grier here at some point in the fourth quarter. That's how the Eagles handled their QB rotation in Week 2 last season.

McKee struggled last week against the Ravens, only completing 38% of his passes. I can see him bouncing back with a better performance this week, but I still firmly grade him as a third-string QB,

Patriots Preview: Second Half

New England had a bizarre QB rotation last week with Brissett and Maye playing one drive apiece with Zappe getting a ton of snaps after they're both done. That may have been Zappe's final hurrah as a Patriots player and I'd expect him to get most of the fourth-quarter mop-up duty today.

That means we could see Joe Milton III play most of the third quarter and potentially beyond. He was great last week, so New England will likely want to give him more of an extended look here.

Milton looked sharp as a passer and has a ton of rushing upside, so he's an above-average second-half preseason QB.

Koerner's Betting Look: I may be looking to back the Patriots in the second half. Follow along in our Discord to see if/when I lock in the bet.
