The WNBA features a four-game slate tonight, and I have player prop picks ready for Mercury vs. Fever and Liberty vs. Sparks.
Happy August, and let the dog days of summer begin.
Dawg days, for bettors, though, right?
There are two props I like tonight and Diana Taurasi's pursuit of 10,000 career points (she's 47 points away).
I don't think she gets that tonight, so I'll check back in later this week to see if she hasn't reached by the weekend.
To tonight's slate, we go.
WNBA Player Props & Picks
Phoenix Mercury vs.
Indiana Fever
Aliyah Boston Over 13.5 Points (-125)
Spread | Fever -265 |
Time | TV | 7 p.m. ET | ESPN3 |
Best Line | DraftKings |
Aliyah Boston has been torched by Brittney Griner in both previous encounters between these clubs — Griner, however, won't be available to play tonight. This opens the door for a Boston over, although she hasn't been cashing her point total overs recently.
Boston's scoring has been up and down so far in her rookie season. She scored 14 points in her most recent game but hadn't scored 14 points in any of her four previous contests. Before that, she scored at least 18 points in three of four games.
Boston scored just four and six points against the Mercury in their two previous contests, while Griner put up most of her 29-point and 22-point performances against Boston. Now, the rookie will match up with Megan Gustafson, who is a much more favorable matchup than the nine-time WNBA All-Star.
I'm betting Boston over 13.5 points, but I wouldn't go any higher than over 14 points.

New York Liberty vs.
Los Angeles Sparks
Jonquel Jones Over 9.5 Rebounds (+102)
Spread | Liberty -470 |
Time | TV | 10 p.m. ET | NBA TV |
Best Line | FanDuel |
Now, we're gonna play my favorite WNBA Betting Game: Trap or Trend!
Jonquel Jones has gotten 11 or more rebounds in sixconsecutive contests, part of a seven-game sample of averaging 15.7 points and 12.1 rebounds since the All-Star break.
Her rebounds prop tonight is set at 9.5 boards, but not only that, it's — for now — at plus odds on FanDuel. Hmm … that's pretty interesting!
Is this a trap where we're due a five-rebound performance against a deep Sparks frontcourt that features Nneka Ogwumike, Azura Stevens and Dearica Hamby?
Well, I don't think so. Jones just two nights ago scored 13 points while grabbing 13 rebounds in an 87-79 win over the Sparks, who only had 25 rebounds as a team to the Liberty's 42.
The Liberty should've won by more, and if they do, that's your concern with this prop — an early pull due to a blowout victory. Only three of Jones' nine double-digit rebound performances have come in double-digit wins.
I'm rolling with the trend because the Sparks are too small, Jones has been exceptional since the break, and we're getting decent juice.
Pick: Jonquel Jones Over 9.5 Rebounds +102 |
