It gives fans a chance to see the reigning Heisman Trophy winner, Jayden Daniels, make his debut for Washington, and on the other side, a familiar face returns to East Rutherford as Tyrod Taylor gets the start at QB for New York.

As we get closer to Saturday's 12 p.m. ET kickoff, the Commanders are now 3-point favorites (-3) against the Jets in Week 1 of the preseason. The total is set at over/under 34.5 points scored by both teams combined. The Commanders are -175 favorites to win outright, with the Jets +150 to pick up the upset victory.

As we mentioned above, my Commanders vs Jets pick for today's best bet is on the underdog Jets to cover. Let's preview why by looking at both teams.

Commanders Preview: Washington Debuts New Head Coach & QB

Dan Quinn is back as a head coach in the NFL, leading his team into the preseason for the first time in four years. It's a new look Commanders for fans with an all-new QB room too. The main point of interest is the arrival of Jayden Daniel, with the Heisman winner drafted second overall this summer. He's QB1 on the depth chart and is likely to be the regular season starter. That means we'll see him in limited action here, but we should see him for a little while.

Without Daniels we're going to need to look at his backups, and the Commanders have two vets and a rookie with UDFA Sam Hartman behind Marcus Mariota and Jeff Driskel in the depth chart. Those two arrived in free agency and provide real depth behind Daniels and could cause the Jets problems.

Jets Preview: New York Turns to Tyrod Under Center

The Jets will be without Aaron Rodgers for the opener but that's not a new feeling for Robert Saleh, with the former Packer injured on the first drive of his Jets career. After that injury, we saw a carousel of quarterbacks and poor QB play but the Jets still managed to finish 7-10, which is testament to the coaching of Saleh and the quality of their defense.

We're not going to see much of that defense on Saturday with key players likely to not see much time on the field, but they have quality depth.

With no Rodgers, we're going to see a lot of Tyrod Taylor, who is no stranger to MetLife having spent the last two seasons with the Giants. He's been in the league for 13 years now and the 35-year has has shown that he's one of the of the best backups around.

The offense will be in good hands under him here and he'll likely play a lot of snaps with two untested players behind him on the depth chart, UDFA Andrew Peasley and Adrian Martinez, who was named MVP of the UFL this year.

Sam Farley's Commanders vs Jets Prediction: Bet New York on the Moneyline

We're all excited to see Jayden Daniels play his first snaps in the NFL but we might have to be patient with the rookie and he's still very much an unknown.

Daniels' backups are capable but given what we've saw from the Jets' defense last season, we know that they are incredibly efficient. They'll be able to cause Daniels, as well as Mariota and Driskel problems.

The New York defense carried the team throughout last season and have a very good chance of doing so in this game, making Jets ML the pick, especially with Taylor overseeing their offense.
