We make a Steelers vs. Falcons pick to close what both teams will view as a strong preseason.

Both teams have young quarterbacks and reliable backups, which means we could see quality play under center throughout. One side, though, has a significant advantage.

Let's break down the Steelers vs. Falcons odds and make our NFL preseason pick below.

Steelers vs. Falcons

Matchup Analysis

The Steelers are 2-0 this preseason with convincing wins and covers in both games. They've featured one of the most solid quarterback situations this preseason with projected starter Kenny Pickett starting both games. After Pickett, Mitch Trubisky and Mason Rudolph, two quarterbacks with starting experience in the NFL, have each seen significant action, with rookie quarterback Tanner Morgan also finding time.

The Falcons have one win and one tie through their first two preseason games. Logan Woodside played most of Atlanta's win over Miami, while Desmond Ridder started last week before Taylor Heinicke played the vast majority of the game.

Bet Pittsburgh vs. Atlanta at FanDuel

Steelers -4.5

Falcons +4.5

In the final week of the preseason, most teams try to simulate a real game week in practice, and starters will at least see a couple of drives, with some playing the entire first half. That allows bettors to handicap this week of preseason action closer to a real game than any other week of the preseason.

From that perspective, the Steelers have more firepower. Pickett has looked really sharp this month, and his chemistry with both George Pickens and Pat Freiermuth will be tough for the Falcons' defense to handle because of question marks in their secondary.

The Falcons have a dangerous running game that should be one of the best in the NFL. Rookie running back Bijan Robinson should be one of the most exciting players to watch this season, and the Falcons have plenty of solid backs around him. For this game, though, in what could be limited action for the Atlanta first-team offense, I don't have much faith in Ridder. After sitting for most of last season behind Marcus Mariota, I want to see more of Ridder before backing him in a spot that will be close to regular-season action.

Betting Picks & Predictions

Mike Tomlin is clearly the better coach, Pickett is the better quarterback, and the Steelers will take care of business to close out the preseason and cover the 4.5-point spread.
