Austin Reaves has been used in a completely different role ever since the November 6th game vs. the Grizzlies where head coach JJ Reddick made the decision to bench D’Angelo Russell to start the second half. Before this game and during Oct 22nd - Nov 4th, Reaves ranked 3rd on the team under D’Lo with 53.0 Passes Made, 8.9 Potentials, and 22.1 Assist rate. But since the last five games playing in a different starting five with a higher role, this number has 📈 to ranking 2nd in 60.6 Passes Made, 11.6 Potentials, and a +6.0% jump in Assist Rate. Reaves is taking on the secondary facilitator role and can make high-% passes to the rim to AD or Rui and has LeBron on fastbreaks. He’s had 6+ assists in five straight games with 10-12 potential in four of his last five games. Last year, Reaves averages 6.5 assists and went over 6+ in 13 of 17 instances (76% rate) when seeing these potentials. Finally, it’s an excellent matchup to rack up stats vs. Utah. They allow 15.8 assists/game (2nd most) to opposing backcourts, rank 29th in defensive rating and allow the 5th most PPG. Although the Lakers are heavy 10.5 fav, both teams have motivation on the line since it’s an Emirates Cup game so starters should play full minutes. And for the cherry on top, Reaves has 6+ assists in 8 of the 9 Lakers wins this season. #PlayerProps

The Lakers face off against the Utah Jazz in their NBA Cup matchup and one player that is primed to score is Anthony Davis. The Jazz will be without their best interior defender, Walker Kessler, to make their already bad defense (29th), worse. Anthony Davis should have a field day. The books keep refusing to make AD’s points prop a 30 point line despite him averaging 31.1 points per game this season. This is even skewed down because he left the game against Toronto early due to injury but had already scored 22 points in just 25 minutes. He has exceeded this 28.5 points line in 9/12 games this season, and given the Lakers’ seeming inability to put teams away, he should see plenty of run tonight. While I don’t think he will play 45 minutes because it’s the NBA Cup, I do think the Lakers will play their stars a bit extra and pump up the point differential. I’ll grab AD to stay hot and exceed 28.5 points.
