Rory McIlroy currently holds a one-shot lead at 5-under par after shooting a 65 on Thursday at Southern Hills.
Now, we look forward to Friday’s second round, which features plenty of prop angles to attack on PrizePicks.
Below, I give out my five Round 2 PrizePicks flex plays for the 2022 PGA Championship. For those unfamiliar with PrizePicks flex plays in golf, different combinations of overs and unders generate different payouts.
Using the five plays below, getting five-of-five correct registers a 12.5x payout, four-of-five correct registers a 2x payout, and three-of-five correct registers a 0.4x payout.
PGA Championship Round 2 PrizePicks Plays
John Daly: Round 2 Over 77.5 Strokes
Daly currently sits tied for 56th place at two-over par. While I am as big of a Daly fan as anyone else out there, this number is just far too much of an overreaction to the good start he had on Thursday.
While the Daly story is fun and everyone is rooting for him to make the cut, this number is just too low to pass up. Daly bogeyed four of the final five holes on the back nine, as he came back down to reality to end his first round.
Daly has failed to crack a top-25 finish on the senior tour this season, and major regression should be looming on Friday, as he is playing on a course that is making the world’s best struggle to stay under par.
I would not play this number at anything higher than 77.5.
Rory McIlroy: Round 2 Over 9 Fairways Hit
As I mentioned in the introduction, McIlroy is currently in first place, as he shot a 65 on Thursday. Known for having one of the best drivers on TOUR, McIlroy hit 10-of-14 fairways in Round 1.
This season, McIlroy ranks third on TOUR in SG Off the Tee. With his current spot in first place, McIlroy will need to stay consistent and safe with smart tee shots that should help us grab this over in Round 2.
I would play this total up to 9.5.
Xander Schauffele: Round 2 Over 9 Fairways Hit
Schauffele currently sits tied for seventh place at two-under par. I am backing another guy’s driver with this play, as Schauffele also is known for his great driving ability.
This season, Schauffele ranks 29th on TOUR in SG Off the Tee and is 70th in Driving Accuracy.
In Round 1, Schauffele hit 11-of-14 fairways, and I do not see any reason to not back him to do so once again in Round 2.
I would play this number up to 9.5.
Tyrrell Hatton: Round 2 Under 8.5 Fairways Hit
Hatton currently sits tied for 27th place at even-par. While I backed the driving game of the two previous guys above, I am fading Hatton in Round 2.
While Hatton is known for many things, his driving game is certainly not one of them. This season, Hatton ranks just 118th on TOUR in SG Off the Tee and is 193rd in Driving Accuracy.
Only hitting eight fairways in Round 1, Hatton is a good fade candidate to go under this total once again in Round 2.
That being said, I would not play this total any lower than 8.5.
Abraham Ancer: Round 2 Under 71.5 Strokes
Ancer currently sits tied for fourth place at three-under par after shooting a 67 on Thursday. While regression is certainly a possibility for Ancer, I do not believe he will regress by five strokes.
I mentioned in my article earlier this week that SG Tee to Green and SG Approach the Green would be two important metrics to keep an eye on for this tournament.
Ancer certainly fits that mold, as he currently ranks fourth amongst the field in SG Approach the Green and seventh in SG Tee to Green, which makes me confident that he can have another good outing on Friday.
I would play this total down to 71.
