It’s no question JSN is talented but he had a dissapointing rookie year compared to his draft hype. He went under this prop in 9/17 games, while battling a wrist injury and being misused in former OC’s Shane Waldron’s offense (now on the Bears). Often times, he was lined up behind the line of scrimmage, with 14% of targets having air yards thrown for >20 yards. He had the 2nd lowest aDOT amongst rookies and his average route of 8.9 yards ranked 89th out of 99 recievers. But heading into a new season, I expect that to change with new OC Ryan Grubb at helm - an agressive playcaller back in college at Washington who featured deep ball passing schemes with gunslinger Michael Penix. His aDOT ranked 13th highest amongst all QBs lead by Ja’Lynn Polk and Rome Odunze which I expext to rubbed off on JSN with deeper routes. A sneak preview of this was in Geno Smith’s only preseason drive vs. the Browns where he connected with JSN for a 25-yard LongRec. Tomorrow vs. the Broncos maks a good opportunity to see downfield work, with stud CB Partick Surtain II focused on DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett (thigh) potentially not 100% being limited in practice. JSN should get more slot snaps in a mismatch vs. burnable Ja’Quan McMillian (ranked 34th out of 42 qualified passer rating in 2023)
