After a strong first half of the season that earned him his second All-Star selection, Bam Adebayo has cooled off from a production standpoint. The Heat center is averaging 24.2 points and rebounds since the midseason checkpoint, staying under this line in eight of 10 games.
In that span, Adebayo’s touches are down, with only a combined 13.3 paint and elbow touches per game compared to 15.1 before the All-Star break. And he’s only managed to grab at least nine rebounds in one game since the break.
Adebayo cooling off has coincided with strong play from Jimmy Butler, who has seen his usage rate bumped up to 26%. In fact, despite leading the Heat in usage before the All-Star break, Adebayo has been behind both Butler and Tyler Herro over the team's last 10 games.
Against the Jazz, the Heat big man will go toe to toe against Walker Kessler. The Jazz rookie has emerged as one of the NBA’s preeminent defensive forces in the paint, rating in the 91st percentile in defensive Estimated Plus-Minus.
Kessler’s strong play has led to the Jazz allowing the fewest points per game to opposing centers over their last 15 games.
This game sets up to be yet another strong matchup for Butler and Herro. With Adebayo figuring to play third fiddle, I have him projected at 26 points and rebounds. I’d play this line down to under 28.5. DraftKings has the best number on this at 29.5.
