The Dallas Mavericks just fired Nico Harrison as they look to close the chapter in the debacle that was the Luka Dončić trade. The key piece that they returned was Anthony Davis who has Yeth again been injured a bit this season but he looks to make his potential return tonight against the Phoenix Suns. Given his injury history I would imagine that he only suits up tonight if he’s truly ready to go. This line seems to imply that he may be operating on some sort of minute limit and well I think that that is entirely possible. I still think that it’s a bit too low. AD has cleared this line in every game that he’s been healthy for this season (4/4). Now he gets this matchup against Mark Williams Who? he simply destroyed in the last matchup against him. Of all the games to come back from injury to this is a plus matchup for AD.

The Mavericks are 8-3 to the under this season, and depending on what number you got on Bucks-Mavs, 9-2. They can’t score. They have the No. 29 halfcourt offense in the NBA right now via Synergy Sports, and are going under their team total by an average of 6.8 points per game, by far the worst in the NBA. The Suns have the 10th-best halfcourt offense in the NBA, but the Mavericks do defend, with the 9th best halfcourt defense. And the Mavericks are actually really efficient when they run; they are 9th in transition offenses per possession, while Phoenix is 26th defensively in that category. However… the best way to defend transition points is to not allow transition opportunities. The Suns get back and allow the 2nd-fewest transition possessions per game. So this is going to be a slog. You can back the Mavs in an emotional spot after the firing of Nico Harrison, but I don’t find players to really rally in those situations. The guy who traded for you or gave you a contract being fired just makes you uncertain about your future. But a Mavericks win looks like a tough defensive effort on the road. A Suns win looks like another feces drop offensively from Dallas. Love this under.
