The Yankees’ implied team total has skyrocketed to 6.2 runs so this is scary. At the same time, the Yankees are on a historic (poor) run where they’ve now gone under their game total in 15 straight games. I don’t have the stomach to play the full game total here with the A’s owning the worst bullpen (5.93 ERA) but I think there’s value in the F5 u5.5. JP Sears has outperformed his surface metrics. He has a 5.44 ERA but a 4.37 xERA. He has a 5.31 FIP but a 4.77 xFIP. His biggest issue has been home runs (2.00 HR/9) but he has a career-low walk rate (5.4% BB%). Clarke Schmidt has been fantastic with a 2.82 ERA backed by a 2.67 xERA. Again, I won’t sugar coat this as it’s a scary spot, but I have this projected closer to 5 runs and just pray both pitchers can keep the ball in the park for the first half.
