The Warriors have struggled to begin the season as they are just 7-9, but it is important to contextualize that with the reality that they’ve played the single most difficult schedule of opponents this season.

The Spurs have been volatile and exciting as they started their season off with two big wins over the Phoenix Suns, but have since sputtered and now are just 3-12 and rank dead-last in Net Rating (-12.2). They are currently on a 10-game losing streak, but they have played a fairly difficult schedule of opponents (fifth) to begin the year.

Focusing on this matchup, I expect their to be a lot of points here as the Spurs rank sixth in pace while the Warriors rank 12th. The Warriors have played the single toughest schedule of opposing defenses while the Spurs have played the fifth-most difficult opposing defense schedule. Both these offenses are likely being slightly undervalued due to this and I don’t really like the way these defenses matchup.

The Warriors are heavily predicated on offensive movement and the three ball as they rank 5th in offensive three point attempt rate on the year. This will neutralize a a lot of the Spurs length around the rim as the Warriors aren’t even attempting paint shots this year as they rank dead-last in offensive rim rate.

The Spurs haven’t defended the three point line well as they rank 27th in opponent three point percentage allowed (39.3%) and 17th in opponent three point rate allowed. The Spurs don’t have a great matchup to contain Steph Curry here so I expect him to get to his spots and create for his teammates here.

On the flip side of the ball, the Spurs should have opportunities in transition off the Warriors long misses from all their threes and that is huge for this Spurs team as they want to play in transition with all of their athleticism.

I honestly don’t think the Warriors have the defensive talent to shut teams down without Draymond Green and I think that the Spurs athleticism will give this veteran Warriors team problems.

Looney is an effective rebounder but he will be pulled away from the rim at times as both Zach Collins and Victor Wembanyama can shoot from distance. That should leave the Warriors vulnerable on the defensive glass and I think the Spurs can exploit that.

The Spurs may not put up 125 points but they can do enough to help us get over this total.

As you likely already guessed I am on the over here. The pace should be fast and these teams do not matchup well at all. When you factor that in with how difficult their schedules have been I think this should be closer to 237 than 234.5 so will gladly take the over.

Pick: Over 234.5
