The Brooklyn Nets and New York Knicks meet for the fourth and final time this season tonight at Madison Square Garden.

The Knicks are looking to win their seventh straight game.

Brooklyn Nets

What was looking like a promising season for the Brooklyn Nets changed abruptly when Kyrie Irving requested a trade from the organization.

Once Irving was moved to the Dallas Mavericks, Kevin Durant was then sent to the Phoenix Suns.

The super team era in Brooklyn was over.

The new-look Nets will try to make a playoff run with their new pieces, but so far, things have not worked for head coach Jacque Vaughn’s bunch. Brooklyn has lost three straight games and five of their last six. The Nets had a 3-8 straight-up record in the month of February.

The Knicks and Nets just met at the Garden before the All-Star break. The Knicks came into that game as three-point favorites and won by 18. It was the Knicks' first win over the Nets in nine games.

Tonight, Brooklyn is a 7.5-point 'dog to the Knicks. The balance of power in New York basketball has shifted. Over the past few months, Brooklyn has slipped from the third seed in the East to the sixth seed in the conference.

Brooklyn is in danger of missing the playoffs if they can't get their new pieces to mesh quickly.

New York Knicks

For everything I just said about the Brooklyn Nets, the New York Knicks are the opposite.

The Knicks are one of the hottest teams in the league right now. They have won six straight games, and they have been impressive wins.

In their last outing, they beat the Celtics by 15 points. The game prior to that was a 22-point beat down of the Pelicans. Five of the Knicks' last nine victories have come by double-digits. Things will be different at Madison Square Garden this spring.

The Knicks are getting great play from Jalen Brunson, and Julius Randle has been hard to handle.

Timely buckets from Immanuel Quickly and Quentin Grimes make them even tougher – not to mention the trade deadline deal to acquire Josh Hart, who has not lost as a Knick.

It may just seem like the Knicks are on a heater, but if you dig a little deeper, you will notice that the Knicks have a 23-14 record over the last thre months. Only the Nuggets, Sixers, Bucks and Celtics have better records in that time frame.

It’s time to take the Knicks seriously.

Nets-Knicks Pick

One of the few weak spots for the Knicks this season has been as home favorites. On the season New York is 9-11 ATS when favored at home.

To be fair, the Knicks have improved to 6-2 ATS at home over the last six weeks.

The Brooklyn Nets, meanwhile, really need this game, and I expect them to put up a fight. But the Garden will be electric tonight. I think the Nets hang tough, but I expect the Knicks to pull away late and cover the number.

I like the Knicks all the way to -9.
