The Celtics travel to Philadelphia to take on an injured 76ers team on Wednesday night. Can the C’s capitalize on their rest and health advantage or will the 76ers defend their home court? Let’s break this one down and get to our Celtics vs 76ers prediction and pick.
Celtics vs 76ers Prediction
Pick: Celtics -5
Update: Boston will be without both Jaylen Brown and Krisptaps Porzingis on Wednesday night.
Both Jaylen Brown (sick) and Kristaps Porzingis (right knee contusion) will miss tonight’s game vs. the 76ers on ESPN, the team says.

The 76ers have begun the year 8-2 and are currently second in net-rating. Tyrese Maxey ranks top-10 in box plus-minus and looks like a surefire All-Star. Maxey is currently the favorite for Most Improved Player as he is averaging 28.6 PPG and 7.2 APG while shooting 50% from the field and 43% from three.
We’ve also seen an emergence from Tobias Harris as he is averaging 19.7 PPG on 56.5% from the field. This 76erS team has seemingly not missed a beat from James Harden’s absence and departure but I remain a bit skeptical as the 76ers have played the 19th-most difficult schedule, according to Dunks & Threes.
The Celtics lead the NBA in Net Rating despite playing the fifth-most difficult schedule. They have been remarkably elite and are the clear-cut favorites in the East if they can avoid major injuries.
Their +16.4 Net Rating ranks four points above the second-place 76ers (+12.4) and this is despite playing a difficult schedule. This team is scary elite and I expect them to keep dominating teams as long as they can stay healthy.

Monitor the 76ers' injury report here as they are coming off a back-to-back here and have played the Pacers twice in the last three days. The Pacers play at one of the fastest paces in the NBA so fatigue could be a real issue for this Philadelphia team that is lacking in depth right now.
The 76ers lost Kelly Oubre to a broken rib from a car accident and now Nicolas Batum is dealing with a personal issue while star center Joel Embiid is dealing with hip soreness. These are massive losses as the 76ers need all the wings they can get to defend Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown.
These teams matched up a week ago and the 76ers took the game 106 to 103. I liked the Celtics' shot profile as they took 49% of their shots from three and 31% at the rim, but they lost the game because they shot just 31.9% on their threes. I’d expect that number to regress here and if they shoot closer to their averages, the Celtics should take this one.

The Celtics lost this game by one possession last week and that was with them shooting just 31% from three and playing a 76ers team at full strength. Now the Sixers are down two of their top wing defenders and are coming off two straight games against one of the fastest teams in the NBA.
I expect the Celtics to take this one regardless of Joel Embiid’s status. I’ll gladly take the -2 on the Celtics at FanDuel and would bet this up to -3 regardless of Embiid’s status. I believe the Celtics are good up to -5 assuming that they are at full strength here.
Pick: Celtics -2 (-110) | Play to -5 |
