Kelly has cleared this in 3 of his last 5 starts, but two of those came against the Angels and Rockies…the top two easiest teams to K this season. He’s seen a sharp dip in whiff rate over his last two starts, which is a bit of a red flag, especially considering he’s been due for some regression according to my expected Ks model. His K% has been fairly matchup dependent all year, and today’s Cardinals lineup is one of the tougher ones he’s faced in terms of expected strikeout rate. His best K chances are the 2/4/8/9 hitters, but I have him getting pulled right around the 5–6 hitters the third time through, which limits his ceiling a bit. I’m projecting a fair price closer to -180.
