Duke vs. NC State Odds & Betting Predictions - March 3, 2026

This line has gotten out of hand, but I get why it is so high. There’s not a single team playing better or looking better than Duke right now. Meanwhile, NC State has lost back to back games and four of their last five in embarrassing fashion. These teams appear to be moving in opposite directions, but now is actually the perfect time to sell high on Duke and buy low on the Wolfpack. This is a ton of points to be laying on the road in a rivalry game. While Duke is obviously elite, our model thinks the market is totally overvaluing them in this spot. It has Duke winning 75.49 to 72.23, which implies a fair spread of just 3.27 points. NC State will be able to get out in transition and let it fly from deep. Duke’s defense is elite, but they do struggle when teams are able to push the pace. Duke is allowing 1.13 points per possession in transition and will be facing an NC State team that has been elite in that area. The Wolfpack are scoring 1.35 points per possession in transition this season, which is in the 92nd percentile. NC State should also be able to find space with drive and kick looks. Duke allows three pointers at the tenth highest rate in the country and now faces a Wolfpack team that ranks 11th nationally in three point percentage. If NC State is cold from deep, it could be a long night, but if those shots are falling, they’ll have a puncher’s chance to win this game outright. If there’s one offensive area Duke struggles, it’s from beyond the arc. They rank 4th in the country in two point percentage but just 100th in three point percentage. That matters against an NC State defense that allows the 32nd most threes in the nation but just the 335th most two pointers. Duke wants to score down low, but NC State doesn’t let you get to your spots easily. We’ve seen elite three point shooting teams like Virginia and Louisville blow out NC State, but that’s not really Duke’s style. Duke is just 14th in the ACC in three point attempts, compared to Virginia at third and Louisville at first. NC State has also been very good at winning the turnover battle, which is key here since they will likely lose on the glass. Stealing possessions from Duke is paramount. The Wolfpack rank first in the ACC in offensive turnover rate and third defensively. Duke’s defense forces turnovers at the highest rate in the conference, so NC State taking care of the ball is huge. On the flip side, Duke’s offense has been a bit clumsy, ranking just 7th in offensive turnover rate in ACC play. NC State will want to make this game messy and get out in transition as much as possible. All in all, Duke is the better team, but this is the peak of the market on the Blue Devils and the lowest point on NC State. This is the time of year where things start to get weird, and I wouldn’t be shocked if the Wolfpack give Duke a real run for their money tonight. Give me NC State to cover at home in this rivalry matchup.

Big number. Duke wants to play slow. If NC State can get out in transition a bit they can keep it close. Plus, I just don’t trust the non Boozer Duke options game in and game out. Gonna have to roll with the Pack’s pace and shooting here.

Pack going to killed on glass so will have to make up for that some in turnover department. They will try at all costs to turn this into a 3P shooting contest and while Blue Devils are no doubt elite, they are a net +15% in 6 games since UNC loss (41% vs 26%) on super high 2 way volume. Meanwhile, Pack are -8% over that same stretch. If there were ever a buy low sell high spot where 3P shooting regression works in a home team’s favor, this is it. Now if it’s 50-20% in favor of Duke like it was vs UVA, it’s obviously lights out but I’ll take my chances at this price.
