A couple of old Big East rivals meet for the first time since 2013 as the Georgetown Hoyas make a trip to Jersey Mike’s Arena to face the Rutgers Scarlet Knights in the Gavitt Games.

The Hoyas look to rebound after a surprising home loss to Holy Cross, while Rutgers has bounced back from an opening-night defeat to Princeton with two straight wins.

Here's Georgetown vs. Rutgers odds and a prediction, including an NCAAB betting guide for Wednesday, Nov. 15.

Georgetown Hoyas

In one of the more surprising moves this offseason, longtime Providence head coach Ed Cooley stepped away from the Friars for Georgetown.

Cooley took PC to seven NCAA tournaments — including a Sweet 16 trip in 2022 — but trying to revitalize a dormant Hoyas program is his next task following a 12-year run with the Friars.

The Hoyas, who won a combined 13 games the previous two seasons, started on a high note in Cooley’s coaching debut, beating Le Moyne in a blowout.

However, Georgetown was stunned by Holy Cross as 17.5-point home favorites in a 68-67 setback this past Saturday. The Hoyas led by 11 points with eight minutes remaining in regulation, but the Crusaders outscored Georgetown 22-10 down the stretch.

Against Holy Cross, the Hoyas actually shot better from 3-point range (11-of-29) than they did from 2-point territory (11-of-32). To put it in perspective, Georgetown torched Le Moyne on 2-point attempts by converting 27-of-37 in the season-opening victory.

To be fair, Cooley is dealing with basically a new roster this season. His top scorers so far are guard Rowan Brumbaugh (15.0 PPG), who redshirted last season at Texas, Supreme Cook (13.5 PPG), who spent the last three seasons at Fairfield, and Jayden Epps (13.5 PPG), who came over from Illinois.

Rutgers Scarlet Knights

It’s hard to believe that Steve Pikiell is in his eighth season as the head coach of the Scarlet Knights, but the former leader of Stony Brook has made this a competitive program in the Big Ten.

Rutgers lost six of its final eight regular season games last season to miss the NCAA tournament, and it was eventually a one-and-done in the NIT by losing to Hofstra at home.

The Scarlet Knights didn’t get off to a hot start this season, falling to state foe and last season’s NCAA tournament darling Princeton, 68-61, in Trenton. Rutgers never led by more than four points and was limited to 4-of-14 shooting from 3-point land.

Rutgers bounced back with a 69-45 home blowout of Boston University as 22-point favorites. The Scarlet Knights outscored the Terriers 28-8 to start the second half, as freshman guard Gavin Griffiths scored 25 points.

It was no cakewalk against Bryant this past Sunday, as Rutgers trailed by three with under 12 minutes remaining in regulation. The Scarlet Knights outscored the Bulldogs 25-13 the rest of the way for the 66-57 victory, although Bryant cashed as 14.5-point road underdogs.

Griffiths couldn’t duplicate the effort against Boston U — he hit only 1-of-8 attempts from downtown — but Aundre Hyatt led the Knights with 19 points in 36 minutes of action.

From a KenPom perspective, the Scarlet Knights closed last season ranked 39th. They're currently 72nd, which ranks ahead of only Penn State and Minnesota among Big Ten squads, this season.

Georgetown vs. Rutgers

Betting Pick & Prediction

Georgetown leaves D.C. only twice for non-conference games, which includes a trip to Notre Dame on December 16. It's an incredible point-spread swing for the Hoyas, as they go from a 17-point favorite against Holy Cross to nearly a double-digit underdog here at Rutgers.

Dating back to last season, the Scarlet Knights own a dreadful 1-7-1 ATS record in their past nine opportunities as a favorite, including six outright losses.

Although the Hoyas are the team with the new head coach and newer roster, Georgetown is worth a strong look here as an underdog at the arena formerly known as the RAC.

Pick: Georgetown +9.5 (Play to +8)
