Below we have a Dayton vs Northwestern pick and the latest odds in our CBB betting preview for Friday, Nov. 10.
Two teams that each won 22 games last season meet up in Evanston Friday night as the Northwestern Wildcats host the Dayton Flyers.
Northwestern is coming off its first NCAA tournament bid since 2017, as the Wildcats lost to UCLA in the second round. Dayton failed to make the Big Dance, as the Flyers were bounced by VCU in the Atlantic 10 Tournament championship.
There’s a lot to prove on both sides in this matchup at Welsh-Ryan Arena; the Wildcats want to show they belong in the upper-tier of the Big Ten, while the Flyers are looking to grab hold of the top spot in the A-10 this season.
By December 7 last season, the Flyers had already lost five games, all to quality opponents (UNLV, Wisconsin, N.C. State, BYU, Virginia Tech). Dayton managed to go 17-7 down the stretch and finished in a three-way tie for second place in the A-10, but the Flyers missed the NCAA tournament for the sixth straight season.
The Flyers rallied past SIU Edwardsville from the Ohio Valley in their season opener, 63-47, on Monday, but failed to cash as 17.5-point favorites.
Dayton trailed 24-16 in the first half before scoring the final 11 points to take a 27-24 halftime lead. Anthony Grant’s team outscored the Cougars 36-23 in the second half for the win, but it wasn’t all great news for Dayton.
Starting point guard Malachi Smith played only seven minutes before exiting due to a knee injury. He isn't expected to return this season.
Javon Bennett, who transferred from Merrimack this past offseason, came in to run the point and dished out six assists in 15 minutes of action.
Dayton did struggle from downtown by hitting only 5-of-23 attempts from 3-point range.
Since the start of last season, Dayton owns a 5-9 ATS record when facing non-conference foes. However, only one time the Flyers were listed as an underdog, which was in a 28-point loss at Virginia Tech as 7-point ‘dogs.

Northwestern had some work to do in its season opener against Binghamton, as the Wildcats trailed at halftime, 39-36. Chris Collins’ team stormed back in the second half by outscoring the Bearcats 36-22 to grab a 72-61 home victory.
However, the Wildcats never came close to covering as 17.5-point favorites.
The Wildcats didn’t shoot the ball well, converting on 20-of-41 2-point attempts and making only five 3-pointers on 18 shots.
Brooks Barnhizer scored 18 points and pulled down 13 rebounds in the win, even though 10 of his points came at the foul line. Point guard Boo Buie led the Wildcats with 27 points, while hitting three of the team’s five treys.
The Wildcats have won 18 of their last 24 home games since the 2021-22 season, but they're 5-8 ATS in the role of a home favorite in this span.
Dayton vs. Northwestern
Betting Pick & Prediction
Although Dayton is sitting in a rare underdog spot at Northwestern, the Flyers will have to adjust to life without Smith at the point. It was a problem last season when Smith was hurt, too.
The Wildcats had more success in the underdog role — as opposed to a favorite — on the way to an NCAA tournament berth last season. But Northwestern should be able to take care of business after a strong second half against Binghamton.
Pick: Northwestern -4.5 (Play to -5)
