Below, we have NCAAB odds and a pick for Rutgers vs Seton Hall.
Two teams in desperate need of a win will square off this weekend when Rutgers heads across the state to face the Seton Hall Pirates.
Seton Hall has now lost three of its last four games, while Rutgers has lost back-to-back contests. Both teams play slow and feature defenses that can stifle an opposing offense.
While Rutgers fans are likely ecstatic with the news of their recruiting win this week regarding Dylan Harper, they'll have to wait another season for his offensive assistance. It's been ugly basketball on that end for Rutgers all season, which should be no surprise with a Steve Pikiell team.
The Scarlet Knights just don't have many answers to score the basketball.
Seton Hall is much better on that end, and is a balanced squad overall, ranking 71st in Adjusted Offensive Efficiency and 79th on the defensive side. All of Seton Hall's losses have come against high-quality opponents, and it's taken care of business in the win column against every team it's played that's Rutgers' caliber or worse.
Desperation sometimes brings out the best in college basketball teams, and hopefully that's what we see in this rivalry game.
The big name to know for Rutgers is its star center Cliff Omoruyi, who's now in his fourth season under Pikiell. Omoruyi is one of the best defensive bigs in the sport and is a rim protector that can dominate a game by blocking shots and rebounding.
While he's always been an impact defender, he's never really added much to his offensive arsenal, and neither have many of his Rutgers teammates.
The Scarlet Knights depend on guard Derek Simpson and freshman wing Gavin Griffiths to do most of their scoring, but some nights they just aren't up to the task.
Rutgers is one of the worst shooting teams in the country, ranking 263rd in 3-point percentage and 300th from 2-point range. It won't be easy for Rutgers to score on the road.
Rutgers will have issues offensively in part because of the Seton Hall defense. The Pirates have five games this season where they've held an opponent to 63 or less points. Rutgers is the type of team the Seton Hall defense can have success against.
On the offensive end, Seton Hall has more weapons, starting with Kadary Richmond, who's scored in double figures in seven of eight games this season. Richmond began his career at Syracuse and is finally blossoming into a high-level star under Shaheen Holloway.
Seton Hall would be smart to get to the line in this one, as the Pirates make 80% of their free throws, good for seventh nationally. It won't be easy, as Rutgers does a good job of avoiding fouls.
Rutgers vs. Seton Hall
Betting Pick & Prediction
This is Rutgers' second consecutive true road game, following a 19-point loss at Wake Forest earlier this week.
Seton Hall, similar in caliber to Wake Forest, is desperate for a win and has the home crowd behind it.
Take the Pirates to create some separation.
Pick: Seton Hall -3
