Below, we have college basketball odds and a pick for Missouri vs. Pitt on Tuesday, Nov. 28.
When Missouri takes on Pittsburgh in the ACC/SEC Challenge, it'll be a fascinating game between two teams that have shown they have very high ceilings and also very low floors. You never know who's going to show up for either of these teams, which makes them both very entertaining and very compelling.
Missouri is off to a 5-2 start, which is impressive on paper but also includes some horrible showings. The Tigers lost at home to Jackson State, they got blown out at home by Memphis and they trailed Minnesota all game before a furious comeback to win in the final seconds.
It's hard to tell how good Missouri really is, or how good they'll be by the end of the season.
The same can be said for Pitt, which Jeff Capel has molded into a promising roster. The Panthers are 5-1 on the season, but they got destroyed in their only game against a KenPom top-175 opponent (an 86-71 loss to Florida).
Pitt's wins have been decisive and fun to watch, but if the Panthers aren't at their best, they could lose to anyone, anywhere.
Missouri's biggest strength this season has been its rim protection, where it grades out as the second-best team in the country in Block %. Two different Tigers are averaging two blocks per game: Aidan Shaw and Noah Carter.
On the season, Missouri has blocked 50 shots, which is the most in the country. Pitt will likely struggle to score at the rim in this game.
On the other end of the floor, the Missouri offense has been efficient at times. The Tigers make 36% of their shots from 3-point range, 56% from inside the arc and 76% from the free-throw line. All of those categories rank inside the top 100 in college basketball, according to KenPom.
Their biggest point of concern has been rebounding, where they struggle immensely on both sides of the floor. This bodes horribly against a Pittsburgh team that's been able to bully opponents on the boards all season long.
To that point, Pittsburgh ranks first in the country at preventing offensive rebounds and 10th in the country in rebounding its own misses. There won't be many second chances for Missouri in this game, and there will likely be tons for Pitt.
While we mentioned Missouri's balance, Pitt also grades out as equally dangerous both offensively and defensively. The Panthers are 37th in Adjusted Defensive Efficiency and 54th on offense.
Carlton "Bub" Carrington is the player to watch, as he's been incredible as a freshman point guard. Carrington is coming off his first poor performance of the season, and I expect him to bounce back nicely here.
Missouri vs. Pitt
Betting Pick & Prediction
With Pitt being at home, this will be a difficult task for a Missouri team that's biggest weakness maps perfectly with Pitt's biggest strength.
Unless the Mizzou veteran guards can bottle up Carrington for the second game in a row, it'll be a surprise to see Pitt not find success in this game on both ends.
Take the Panthers to cover.
Pick: Pitt -6.5
