Mets vs Giants MLB Betting Preview

New York Mets Betting Preview

After a five-run first inning against reigning NL Cy Young Award winner Paul Skenes on Opening Day, the Mets' lineup has been pretty dormant. Over five games, this retooled lineup has put the ball in play a ton, but much of that contact hasn't been high-quality.

The Mets have a 47.5 percent ground ball rate and just a 16.1 percent line drive rate. Those numbers are good news for Giants starter Robbie Ray, who did not look all that sharp in his first outing against the New York Yankees.

Ray struggled a bit with command but still had the stuff to generate swinging strikes. If his command returns to form in this outing, he could shut down a trudging Mets lineup playing its sixth consecutive game tonight.

San Francisco Giants Betting Preview

While I harped on the disappointing start surrounding the Mets' lineup above, one of the only lineups that has been worse than them is the Giants. San Francisco comes into this series with a team wRC+ of 65 and an OPS of .558, the second lowest in baseball.

However, much like the Mets, they have put the ball in play quite often, but their quality of contact has been dreadful. They have the fifth-lowest hard-hit rate, and over 50 percent of the balls they've put in play have been on the ground.

Tonight, they face David Peterson, who was stellar in his first outing of 2026 against the Pirates. He looked much like what he was during the first half of 2025, but he still had to work around traffic.

Pitching with traffic has been Peterson's Achilles' heel, as his 1.37 WHIP in 2025 and left-on-base percentage of 69.2 show that the floodgates tend to open on him when guys get on.

While San Francisco has not shown many signs of improvement, they have been better against lefties, striking out five percent less. Look for San Francisco to make Peterson work hard as they try to cash in on the inevitable RBI opportunities tonight.

Mets vs Giants Pick, MLB Betting Analysis

With the current form of these two lineups, it's hard to anticipate much offense. However, David Peterson does not have to get rocked to exit this game early.

As I mentioned above, the Giants are going to find their way on base against Peterson and will go from there. This Giants lineup is far more dangerous than the one Peterson saw with Pittsburgh, and they have a number of bats who have a track record of excelling against lefties.

None of the arms in the Mets' bullpen were heavily taxed, despite working extra innings. So look for Carlos Mendoza to make a concerted effort to prevent a blow-up inning and get Peterson out of the game when we see him find trouble the second time through the order.
