Bosnia and Herzegovina vs Canada

Bosnia finished second in their World Cup qualifying group, behind a competent and organized Austria side. The Bosnians successfully navigated UEFA’s World Cup playoff fixtures, showing grit and determination to overcome Wales on penalties before bestowing the same fate on Italy in the playoff final. This is a nation that is difficult to beat, and one that won’t be overwhelmed by the home crowd, as evidenced against Wales in Cardiff.

Canada, meanwhile, backed by a home crowd, will aim to start the tournament on a high note. Despite their status as a favorite, Canada’s tournament history is modest, with their two previous appearances in 1986 and 2022 resulting in six losses in six games. Therefore, the question must be asked as to whether Canada should be the odds-on favorite in the opening fixture.

Additionally, defender Moise Bombito has recently been removed from the Canada squad due to injury. Marcelo Flores’s injury picked up before the squad announcement ruled him out of contention, while star player, Alphonso Davies is also facing an uphill fitness battle to make the starting 11 for Canada’s opening fixture. Elsewhere, Jacob Shaffelburg (hamstring), Ali Ahmed (hamstring), and Alfie Jones (ankle) are all included in the Canada squad despite current injury concerns.

There are a lot of question marks headed into this match, so let's bet both sides to play to a draw.

Pick: Match Result: Draw (+250)

Bosnia and Herzegovina vs Canada

Ermedin Demirovic Anytime Goalscorer (+400)

Bosnia enter the tournament with three key forwards in the final third. However, Haris Tabakovic picked up an injury for Borussia Monchengladbach on the final day of the Bundesliga season. It looked as if Tabakovic would be ruled out of the tournament, but he has been included in the squad and has subsequently been priced as the second favorite for Bosnia in the anytime goalscorer market.

It's likely that Bosnia will deploy two strikers up front — Ermedin Demirović and Edin Dzeko. The latter, Dzeko, at 40, will start the game as the fovorite for Bosnia in the anytime goalscorer market. Dzeko remains Bosnia’s main goal threat, but there’s an argument that he shouldn't be so much shorter in odds than his partner in the attack.

Demirović, who plays for Stuttgart in the Bundesliga, should see a significant share of minutes at this tournament, given Tabakovic’s injury concerns. He started just 17 games for Stuttgart in the Bundesliga this season due to an injury in 2025, which may make him fresher than most opposition defenders, a positive for the proposed selection. Demirović also scored 12 goals for Stuttgart in league action during an injury-hit campaign.

Pick: Ermedin Demirovic Anytime Goalscorer (+400)

Paraguay vs USA

USA Moneyline (-105)

The USA are odds-on favorites to win their World Cup opener against Paraguay, leaning on Mauricio Pochettino’s European experience to give them a much-needed advantage on the field. The first game will set the tone in a group where anything can happen, and the USMNT can’t afford anything but a win here.

Paraguay, under Gustavo Alfaro, have finally found their way to the big stage after missing out on the past three World Cups. Things have drastically improved after Alfaro took over following a disastrous Copa America run in 2024, and with just five points from the first six South American World Cup qualifying games, the pressure of playing on the big stage could be the x-factor to give the hosts an advantage, as we are yet to see this new Paraguay under the world spotlight.

Our internal predictions model, BETSiE, estimates the hosts have a 51.4% chance of winning this duel. The latest odds raise concern, but also offer value for those who believe in the USMNT.

Pick: USA Moneyline (-105)

Christian Pulisic to Score or Assist (+130)
DraftKings Logo

Christian Pulisic is the USA’s best player and the top scorer on the squad. With 33 goals for the national team, Pulisic needs only two goals to leapfrog Eric Wynalda for fourth place on the USMNT all-time goalscoring list.

Pulisic had a solid season for AC Milan and recorded eight goals with four assists in 30 Serie A appearances. He played well in the USA’s recent friendly matches, registering a goal and an assist in a 3-2 victory over Senegal.
Bettors who opt to back Pulisic to score or assist against Paraguay in this World Cup clash will be happy to know that he is also the team’s primary penalty taker.

Even if he doesn’t score, Pulisic is a creative forward who can play a vital role in the final third and connect with some of his teammates, such as Folarin Balogun or Weston McKennie.

Pick: Christian Pulisic to Score or Assist (+130)
