It'll be deja vu Monday night when the Dallas Stars and Seattle Kraken face off for the second time in three days at Climate Pledge Arena.
The Stars are in the middle of a six-game road trip, and are 2-0-0 after Miro Heiskanen capped off a comeback in overtime on Saturday night. Sitting third in the Pacific, with a pretty clear path to a playoff spot, Seattle is wrapping up a four-game homestand in which it is 1-1-1.
Here's the latest on both teams, and your best bet for Monday's game.
Dallas Stars
In their first season under coach Peter DeBoer, the Dallas Stars have been one of the top teams in the Western Conference.
That starts with Jake Oettinger in net. He has played 50 of the Stars' 66 games and boasts a .920 save percentage, a 2.38 goals-against average and 10.4 goals saved above expected.
The Stars, since the All-Star break, have been more porous defensively than they were earlier in the season. They've allowed an average of 2.93 goals per game and some of the blame falls on the penalty kill, which has been successful just 79% of the time over the past 15 games.
However, the Stars have enough firepower to score their way out of trouble. Since the break, they're tied for sixth in the league, averaging 3.6 goals per game. Their power play, though, is converting just 14.3% of the time.
Jason Robertson continues to lead the way offensively and is up to 83 points in 66 games. Since the break, Roope Hintz has stepped up with 12 goals and i at 32 for the year. Captain Jamie Benn has 16 points in his past 15 games and is up to 27 goals for the first time since the 2018-19 season.
At the trade deadline, the Stars added more offensive punch, bringing in Max Domi and Evgenii Dadonov. Both have made immediate contributions as Dadonov has six points in seven games and Domi has three in four.
On the injury front, Tyler Seguin was knocked out of Dallas's 10-4 win in Buffalo last Thursday and isn't expected to return anytime soon. Depth winger Luke Glendening has been on the injured list with a lower-body issue since February and backup goalie Scott Wedgewood is listed as day-to-day.
Seattle Kraken
Though they're still in playoff position, the Kraken have been a fairly tepid 8-7-2 since the All-Star break. Goaltending has been an issue as Seattle has given up 3.47 goals per game over that span.
Philipp Grubauer has been carrying most of the load recently, but gave up five goals against Ottawa on Thursday and four to the Stars on Saturday. In both games, the Kraken were unable to defend third-period leads and came away with just one of a possible four points.
It's not clear whether the Kraken will go back to Grubauer on Monday. If not, Martin Jones would draw in for his first game since March 2, when he was lifted after giving up three goals on 12 shots to Detroit.
Offensively, Jared McCann and defenseman Vince Dunn have led the charge lately. McCann has 10 goals in 17 games to bring his total to 33, while Dunn has taken over the team scoring lead with 53 points, one ahead of McCann and Jordan Eberle.
Stars vs. Kraken Pick
The Stars and Kraken are two of the best teams in the West, but both have had trouble closing out games. Seattle has blown third-period leads in its past two games and Dallas' 13 overtime-and-shootout losses are tied with Calgary for the most in the league.
Saturday's meeting was the first of three between these teams this season and it carried some playoff-level intensity that will likely carry over to Monday.
Expect plenty of offensive from both of these high-powered teams. That makes FanDuel's Over of 6.5 a good bet at plus money.
