The Boston Bruins and Edmonton Oilers are gearing up for their second meeting in the past two weeks. We didn't see a high-scoring affair in the first go-around, but with the way both teams have been playing lately, this one has the potential to be a barn burner.
The Bruins are looking to extend their 10-game winning streak, while the Oilers are chasing after first place in the Pacific division.
This game features the two best offensive teams in the league, so we should see a ton of goals.
Edmonton Oilers
The Edmonton Oilers aren't only the best offensive team in the NHL, but they also have the league's number one power play. They are averaging 3.86 goals per game and their man-advantage unit is converting 31.7% of the time, which is outstanding.
Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl are leading the way, combining for 19 points in the past five games. Offense hasn't been a concern for Oilers with these two at the helm. McDavid is having arguably the best season of his career and is riding an 11-game point streak while also leading the league in goals, assists and points.
Edmonton's main concern is its goaltending. Jack Campbell and Stuart Skinner have essentially split time in the blue paint, but Skinner has definitely been the better of the two. As a team, the Oilers are allowing 3.29 goals per game, which ranks 21st in the league. They have allowed 17 goals over their past five games and will have to try to slow a very strong Boston team.
Boston Bruins
It is hard to think of anything negative to say about the Boston Bruins. They have been absolutely outstanding all season long, but especially over their past 10 games. Boston has won 10 in a row and has scored 44 goals in that span.
The Bruins boast the second-best offense in the NHL, averaging 3.79 goals per game. They're also skating the seventh-best power play, which is successful at a 23.2% rate.
David Pastrnak has been right up there with McDavid and Draisaitl this season as he has tallied 44 goals and 40 assists in 62 games.
The Bruins get goal scoring from their entire lineup, which makes them incredibly dangerous.
Oilers vs. Bruins Pick
The over has hit in the past five games the Oilers have played following a win. It has also hit in two of the Bruins' past three games.
Edmonton has the best offense in the NHL and the Bruins rank second. Boston's goaltending has been outstanding, but either Linus Ullmark or Jeremy Swayman will have a tough time trying to shut down McDavid and Draisaitl.
Edmonton's goaltending has been consistently poor, so Boston should be able to light the lamp.
I think we will see a very fast-paced game with a ton of scoring.
Pick: Over 6.5 |
