Here's everything you need to know about Golden Knights vs. Blues on Wednesday, Dec. 6 – our expert NHL prediction and pick.
The Western Conference tilt features the Central Division's St. Louis Blues hosting the Pacific Division's Vegas Golden Knights.
These two teams just squared off on Monday with St. Louis pulling off the upset in a 2-1 overtime effort.
Will we see another low-scoring affair, or will the scoring increase?
Let's dig into the NHL odds and make a Golden Knights vs. Blues prediction and pick.
St. Louis' lack of consistent offensive production is likely to be a detriment against Vegas.
If it is to pull off the upset once again, it would likely be in a low-scoring 2-1 effort like we saw on Monday.
The Golden Knights' depth and strong two-way play won them a Cup last season, and they are profiling as a similar team once again through the first quarter of this campaign. At 5-on-5, Vegas ranks in the top half of the league in Expected Goals Against per 60 minutes (xGA/60).
Behind this strong two-way team, goaltender Logan Thompson is likely to fill in for Adin Hill as the latter continues to nurse a lower-body injury. With that said, the drop-off from Hill to Thompson is negligible.
Through 13 appearances between the pipes, Thompson is 6-3-3 with a .919 SV% and 2.33 GAA.
He filled in for Hill on Monday as well, and even though Thompson took the loss, it certainly was not his fault as he stopped 25 of 27 shots for a .926 SV%.
The main reason for St. Louis' upset over Vegas on Monday was goaltender Jordan Binnington's performance, and he is slated to take the crease once again on Wednesday.
In that effort, Binnington stopped 33 of 34 pucks for a .971 Save Percentage (SV%).
It was once again another brilliant effort from the Blues' netminder, who has pretty much carried this team single-handedly thus far. In 18 appearances in the crease, Binnington is 8-6-1 with a .914 SV% and 2.86 Goals Against Average (GAA).
He seems to always elevate his game against the Knights as well. In 15 career starts against them, Binnington is 8-2-4 with a .920 SV% and 2.90 GAA.
However, as has usually been the case this season, Binnington may not get the best goal support. At 5-on-5, St. Louis ranks in the bottom half of the league in Expected Goals For per 60 minutes (xGF/60).
Things don't get much better for the Blues on special teams as they rank second to last in the league in Power Play Percentage.

Binnington has also elevated his game against Vegas over the past few seasons and is once again playing like the goaltender who led a team through a Cup run. However, the Blues still struggle to win despite his play because the offense is terrible.
On the other hand, Thompson showed on Monday that he is more than capable of holding his ground as well.
The Knights are one of the better two-way teams in the league, and this should help take the burden off of Thompson in this spot. Bet Under 5.5 at plus-money on FanDuel.
