Detroit Lions Odds, Bet Types, and Team History
The Lions enter the 2024-25 season with a lot of hype. The 2022 season showed a lot of promise for this rebuilt Lions franchise, and expectations were higher entering 2023. They delivered with their first 12 win season since 1991 and an NFC Championship Game appearence.
The good vibes around the Lions are basically everywhere – Dan Campbell is the “it” coach of the moment, Aidan Hutchinson has lived up to his high draft pivk, Amon-Ra St. Brown is the new receptions god and people love Jared Goff in Detroit.
Where the Lions struggled last season was on the defensive side, particularly the secondary. While Brian Branch was a home run pick a year ago, they addressed that weakness by drafting Terrion Arnold and bringing in Carlton Davis III from the Buccaneers.
They barely lost any talent in free agency and retained both of their coordinators who were hot head coaching candidates. This is a young team who've grown up together and know what it's like to taste success. But make no mistake, this will be as hungry a team as any this season.
The Lions open the season on Sept. 8 against the Rams at home in primetime. Detroit's over/under for wins is set at a robust 10.5.

Betting on the Detroit Lions
Detroit Lions Point Spreads
Betting point spreads are wagers based on the expectation that a team will win or lose by a certain number of points. Here’s an example:
- Vikings +2.5 (+110)
- Lions -2.5 (-110)
In this situation, the Vikings are 2.5-point underdogs against the Lions. If Detroit wins the game by three or more points, a $100 wager on the Lions would come with a payout of $90.91. If Minnesota won the game outright or lost by two points or fewer, the same $100 wager would net $110 plus the original $100 for a total of $210.

Lions Over/Unders
Over/under, also called point total, is a wager placed on the combined scoring of a single game. Bookmakers come up with a number and you can either bet the over or — you guessed it — the under. Here’s how it works:
Let's say the Packers play the Lions and the over/under is set at 45 points. A wager on the over would require Green Bay and Detroit to score 46 total points or more to win. Betting the under is an expectation that the two teams would score 44 or fewer points. It's also possible for the bet to push, which would happen if the game finished with exactly 45 points scored.

Detroit Lions Moneylines
Betting on the moneyline is quite simple -- check out this example:
- Lions -120
- Bears +210
The minus (-) and plus (+) signs distinguish the favorite from the underdog, making Detroit the favorite in this scenario. Odds can be understood more clearly if you think in terms of $10 or $100 increments. A wager on the Lions odds would mean every $120 bet nets $100. And it's the opposite for underdogs: Here the Bears moneyline was set at +210, meaning a $100 wager would profit $210.
Moneylines are also commonly used when making parlays, which are multiple bets tied into one. Let’s say you bet the Lions moneyline and a -2.5 point spread, Detroit would need to win by three points or more for that bet to be successful. The risk is greater, but so is the reward with increased odds. Use our Odds Calculator to calculate any bet amount or conversion.

Detroit Lions Props
Player props are wagers on a single player, and they're tied to a single stat found in the box score for a game or even the whole season. These are among the most fun to bet on, especially if you're already playing fantasy football and like the player-specific focus it offers. Check out a hypothetical example below:
- Jared Goff passing yards: 3,750.5
Lions Futures
Futures are somewhat similar to prop bets in the way that both are monitored over the course of a season. Except most future bets are focused on end of season success. Examples of futures are:
- Detroit Lions odds to win the NFC North
- Detroit Lions odds to win the NFC
- Detroit Lions odds to win the Super Bowl
- Jared Goff’s odds to win MVP
If you’re confident that the Lions are going to turn things around and win the NFC North or can go even further, this is the place to be. For a full list of NFL futures, click or tap here.
