The Seahawks' star receiver is coming off an electric 153-yard game against the Rams in the NFC Championship Game. Should we expect the Offensive Player of the Year to stay hot tonight in the Super Bowl?

If last year was Jaxon Smith-Njigba’s breakout season, then this one has seen him become a true mega star.

In his third season in the NFL, the former Ohio State man is now in the very top tier of receivers in this NFL. He finished the regular season with the most receiving yards of anyone, as well as 10 touchdowns to his name, and has continued that form into the postseason.

Playoff JSN has really shown what he’s all about. He only managed three catches against the Niners in the Divisional Round, but still came away with a touchdown, while his 153-yard, 10-catch, 1-TD performance against the Rams will be remembered for a long time. He was utterly dominant against a good Rams defense and will take the confidence earned from that into this matchup.

It really stands out that the Seahawks have looked to him in the biggest of moments to score, and he’s delivered. Not just in the playoffs but even at key points in the regular season, such as that Week 16 battle with the Rams that went a long way to earn the Seahawks the bye, a game in which he managed to score.

Smith-Njigba led the Seahawks in red-zone targets in the regular season, finishing with six more than Cooper Kupp and four more than AJ Barner, and it’s clear that the team really values the threat that he offers. He’s a player who can beat the opposition in a number of ways, and his route running is sublime.

Smith-Njigba accounts for a staggering 40% of Sam Darnold’s touchdown passes, and given his performances against man coverage this season, something the Patriots really focus on, he should be poised to find the end zone.

I’m going to double down on Smith-Njigba to score here and back the 23-year-old to score in the first half of the game.

Both of his postseason touchdowns came in the first 30 minutes of the game, and the Seahawks really do look to him to set the tone, especially in the second quarter.

If you look back at the regular season, it’s clearly a pattern there, too.

Of his 10 touchdowns, we’ve seen six come in the first two quarters of the game, with just three in the second half, and one in overtime.

Offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak will be doing everything he can to get the ball into JSN's hands.
