Toledo Rockets 2024 Season Preview

Toledo enters the 2024 season as one of the favorites to win the MAC, which makes sense considering the impressive season it put together in 2023.

The Rockets went undefeated in MAC play last season, finishing the regular season with an 11-1 record with their only loss coming to the Illinois Fighting Illini by two points in Week 1. Led by MAC Player of the Year Dequan Finn at quarterback and future first-round NFL Draft pick Quinyon Mitchell at cornerback, Toledo would go on to win its next 11 games before suffering losses to Miami (OH) in the MAC Championship and Wyoming in the Arizona Bowl.

Now, with Finn off to Baylor and Mitchell off to the NFL, the Rockets are looking for revenge.

Toledo enters the season ranked 90th in Action Network's betting power ratings, making it the third-highest-rated team in the MAC behind Miami (OH) and Bowling Green. The Rockets' power rating is seven points lower than Miami (OH), which means we'd project them as 7-point underdogs against the RedHawks on a neutral field.

Here’s how you can bet on Toledo this season and some key things to know.

Betting on Toledo

There are a number of ways to bet on Toledo football this season. There are futures, like MAC Championship odds and college football win totals. Then, there are single-game markets, like moneylines, spreads and totals (AKA the over/under).

Betting Toledo's Moneyline

How does a moneyline work? Here’s how it might look at a sportsbook like DraftKings or FanDuel:

The "-" and plus "+" signs distinguish the favorite from the underdog, which means Toledo would be the favorite in this case.

Odds can be understood more clearly if you think in terms of $10 or $100 increments. A wager on the Rockets' odds would mean every $200 bet nets $100 in profit (plus the $200 stake back). The opposite is true for underdogs. Here, the Western Michigan moneyline was set at +150, meaning a $100 wager would profit $150 (and the $100 stake back).

Most bettors won't bet the moneyline on a large price like -700, but the moneylines of favorites are often used as parlay pieces. Use our parlay calculator to get an understanding of what the payouts will look like when building a parlay. You can also add bets to your betslip on our college football odds page to automatically get the best parlay price.

Betting Toledo's Spread

Similar rules apply when it comes to betting the spread for a team.

A spread is essentially the great equalizer in sports betting. Even elite teams — the Georgias and Ohio States of the world — are expected by oddsmakers to go around .500 against the spread because the spread is based on each team's ability, injuries and recent form.

Toledo's odds of -2.5 means the Rockets are favored by 2.5 points. So, if you bet on Toledo -2.5, you would need it to win by three points or more. On the other side of the coin, if you bet on Eastern Michigan +2.5, you would need the Eagles to lose by two points or fewer or win the game outright.

In this instance, you would also be paying -110 juice, meaning you must wager $1.10 for every $1 you want to win. If you’re unfamiliar with calculating odds, read up on how to use American odds or use our odds calculator.

Betting Toledo's Totals

The third major way to bet Toledo in a single game would be the total — also known as the over/under. The total is simply how many points will be scored in a given game.

  • Over: 43.5 (-115)
  • Under: 43.5 (-105)

If you bet the over in the situation above, you would need the final score of both teams to add up to 44 points or more. If you bet the under, you would need the final score to add up to 43 points or less.

There’s also a corresponding payout with the over and under in this game. In this case, you must wager $1.15 for every $1 you want to win if you bet the over, and $1.05 for every $1 you want to win if you bet the under.

Toledo Player Props & More

College football player props vary by state, and the list of states continues to shrink in the wake of college betting scandals.

If college player props are available in your state, you may find markets like passing over/unders, receiving over/unders, rushing over/unders or touchdown props. U.S. sportsbooks will offer far fewer markets for college players than they will for the NFL for a variety of reasons. The markets for player props also tend to be more limited for smaller games, like your typical MAC contest.

If sports betting isn’t legal in your state or college props aren’t offered, platforms like PrizePicks exist. It’s regulated like DFS and allows you to pick multiple player statistics to be more or less than the listed number.
