In college football, opening games often bring more conservative play than expected, especially in lower-profile matchups.

With both teams playing their first game of the season, timing and execution can be off, and coaches may limit risk while assessing their rosters in real competition.

When betting interest is lower than average, the market’s influence on the total is reduced, often leaving inflated numbers untouched.

In these situations, early-season rust, cautious game plans, and fewer big plays tend to keep scoring below projections, making the Under a strong position.

I could see a lot of early-season rust, poor execution, cautious game plans, and suppressed explosiveness in this Week 1 matchup.

The Virginia offense will be brand-new this season. New quarterback Chandler Morris transferred in from North Texas, and only five starters return from last year’s squad around him. The Cavs lost six offensive linemen from last year’s team who combined for 41 starts.

I suspect that’ll lead to growing pains, especially early in the season.

The same could go for Coastal Carolina, which has brought in a new offensive coordinator (Drew Hollingshead from Western Kentucky) and is still embroiled in a quarterback battle.

I see both offenses figuring it out on the fly, leading to a low-scoring game, just as our PRO system projects.

Pick: Under 58.5 (-110, BetMGM)
