We head to Laramie, where Mountain West powerhouse Boise State (9-1, 6-0 MWC) takes on the Wyoming Cowboys (2-8, 2-4)

The Broncos have won eight straight, and it doesn’t seem like they’re slowing down.

Everyone thought San Jose State would give them problems, but Boise State took care of the Spartans 42-21. Ashton Jeanty unsurprisingly dominated, running for 166 yards and three touchdowns, continuing his Heisman campaign.

Wyoming has had a rough year, and all eyes are on building for next season. Last week, the Cowboys fell to Colorado State 24-10 in Fort Collins. Jamari Ferrell was shockingly the only one who showed up, running for 74 yards on six carries, including a 62-yard play.

Where does the betting value lie in this matchup? Boise State is a 23-point favorite on the spread with a 57.5-point over/under.

Boise State Broncos Betting Preview: A Diversified Attack

Unless you’re Patrick Star and live under a rock, you know Jeanty is the straw that stirs the drink for Boise State.

The wrecking ball running back has yet to run for less than 125 yards in a game this season and has registered a touchdown in every game except for one. Those are insane numbers for a running back, and even though he won’t overtake Barry Sanders’ record, Jeanty is still having a generational season.

Aside from the dynamo back, quarterback Maddux Madsen’s evolution as a quality offensive general is another big reason for the Broncos’ success.

Madsen has done an excellent job limiting turnovers and is completing passes at a 63% rate. The underlying metrics suggest that he hasn’t been as efficient (94th ranked Pass Play Success Rate), but with a dominant run game, there isn’t a need to overdo it.

Cameron Camper is one of the more underappreciated wide receivers in college football. He’s averaging over 16 yards per catch, has four touchdowns and amassed 92 yards on six catches last week.

Tight end Matt Lauter is also one of Madsen’s favorite targets — especially in the red zone, where he has brought in six scores, including one last week.

The one pain point for the Broncos is a defense that ranks near the bottom in nearly every facet. They’re one of the worst teams in allowing explosive plays and rank last in the FBS in points per opportunity allowed.

Luckily, they haven’t been overly exposed, and Boise State has done a better job limiting opposing scores. However, Walker Eget of San Jose State threw for 446 yards against the Broncos, so it’s still a sensitive subject.

Wyoming Cowboys Betting Preview: Trying Out Something New

As someone who enjoys watching outlandish teams play, Wyoming has been at the top of my list.

The Cowboys aren’t that good, but they’ve managed to stay alive in a few games. Before the loss to Colorado State, they went score-for-score against New Mexico in a 49-45 frenzy.

Want to know how weird this season has been in Laramie? Evan Svoboda, who started the season as the quarterback and was benched two weeks ago, was spotted running routes as a tight end against Colorado State.

It's just overall madness.

Redshirt freshman Kaden Anderson took over under center and has opened some eyes. He had an ugly outing last week, but he was extraordinary against New Mexico, completing 69% of his passes, throwing for 342 yards and three touchdowns. It’s still too early to say Wyoming found its guy, but it’ll be interesting to see if Anderson bounces back this week.

For now, I’ll rule out any poor passing metrics for the Pokes — everything except for explosive plays ranks toward the bottom. They have two big playmakers, John Michael Gyllenborg and Jaylen Sargent, but since Svoboda wasn’t helping them, let’s give Anderson a longer leash before we make any judgment.

The Pokes’ defense has been a roller coaster ride throughout the season. They’ve either limited scoring opportunities or turned into Swiss cheese.

I think we’ll be seeing more Swiss cheese in this battle. Wyoming is one of the worst programs at generating Havoc (116th) and is ranked 83rd in Rush Success Rate allowed. With the Pokes playing against a team that runs the ball efficiently, I expect it to be an ugly scene.

Boise State vs Wyoming Pick & Prediction

The spread for this game is listed at 23, and even with all the troubles that Wyoming has had, I’m steering away from it.

Anderson has shown more in three games than I’ve seen out of a season of Svoboda. He can throw it downfield and create explosive opportunities for Sargent and Gyllenborg.

The over, at 56.5, seems a lot more digestible to me. Boise State doesn’t play much defense, and I can see Jeanty eating Wyoming’s defense alive.

Both programs have also hit the over at a solid rate, with Wyoming being 6-4 and Boise State 7-3 to the over.

Pick: Over 57.5 (-105)
