Pistons vs Cavaliers NBA Playoffs Game 6 Preview

History Favors Cleveland in Game 6

The Cavaliers return home with a chance to advance to the Eastern Conference Finals, a place where they have been nearly untouchable this postseason.

Cleveland is currently 6-0 straight up (SU) and 5-1 ATS at home, thriving on the energy of the crowd and superior shot-making.

History is firmly on the Cavs' side here: road underdogs trailing 3-2 in a series are a dismal 17-40 SU in Game 6, and 1-seeds in this position are 4-13 SU.

Ultimately, in a series this tight, you want to back the team with the best player on the floor and the better supporting shooters.

While Cade Cunningham is an ascending premier talent, this series has exposed some of his growing pains against varied coverages. Conversely, Mitchell has been electric throughout the series outside of his Game 5 struggles.

Silver Lining for Detroit?

The Pistons find themselves in a difficult situational spot, attempting to stave off elimination on the road after a crushing fourth-quarter collapse in Game 5.

Despite the loss, the Pistons' game plan in Game 5 was arguably their best of the series: they set screens higher up the floor to give their bigs more rolling room and utilized aggressive at-level coverage in the pick-and-roll to neutralize the downhill attacks of Donovan Mitchell and James Harden.

Even without Duncan Robinson, Detroit stayed afloat until the final frame. The return of Robinson would provide a massive boost to an offense that struggles when spacing is tight.

While the trends for road teams in this spot are generally bleak, there is a silver lining: road underdogs down 3-2 who lost Game 5 at home usually flip the script, going 14-10 against the spread (ATS).

This game feels like a coin flip, and given the desperation, don't be surprised if we see another overtime thriller.

Pistons vs Cavaliers Picks, Betting Predictions

Cavaliers Moneyline (-175)

While the Pistons have shown enough grit to potentially force a Game 7, the Cavaliers' home dominance is too significant to ignore.

Regarding the total, all the historical trends point to the Under, but a Cleveland victory projects more closely with the Over—especially if Robinson returns to boost Detroit's offensive floor and Cleveland continues to find success from the perimeter.

I’ll pass on the total and stick with the Cavs' moneyline in Game 6 tonight.

Cade Cunningham Over 26.5 Points (-125)

Cunningham and the Pistons’ coaching staff unlocked a key adjustment late in Game 4 that translated into Game 5 success.

Because the Cavs are defending the pick-and-roll at the level of the screen, it leaves them vulnerable to Cade rejecting the screen.

This allows him to get downhill into the teeth of the defense, creating space for mid-range jumpers, contested layups, and frequent trips to the free-throw line.

Expect Cade to empty the clip in tonight's elimination game.

Duncan Robinson Over 2.5 Three-Pointers Made (-120)

Robinson missed Game 5 with an injury, but if he is cleared for Game 6, this is a must-bet. He has cleared this 2.5 mark in three of the four games he has played in this series.

Detroit’s tactical shift to setting higher screens creates much more gravity for the roll-man, which in turn, leaves the wings wide open for Robinson’s lethal catch-and-shoot game.

Pistons vs Cavaliers Game 6 Best Bets

  • Cavaliers ML (-175)
  • Cade Cunningham Over 26.5 Points (-125)
  • Duncan Robinson Over 2.5 Three-Pointers Made (-120)
