Celtics vs 76ers NBA Playoffs Game 6 Preview

Boston Celtics Betting Preview, Analysis

I’m going to be honest with you right out of the gate: Celtics -5.5 is only a small play for me in this spot. It simply doesn’t match what my eyeballs are seeing on the court.

My eyes see a mess. I don't trust Boston's bigs, Joe Mazzulla is facing coaching questions, and Derrick White is so deep in a funk that I’m not sure he can see daylight. He can’t do anything right lately. Even Jaylen Brown looks like he’s starting to fade.

My entire portfolio is leaning on Boston to stop playing with their food. What could possibly go wrong?

Philadelphia 76ers Betting Preview, Analysis

The historical data for the Sixers isn't much better. Joel Embiid is now a whopping 4-13 in his playoff career against the mighty Celtics. He just doesn't beat this team when the lights are brightest.

Embiid’s scoring in Game 5 was impressive—33 points on 12-of-23 shooting—but if you looked at the box score, you saw a "4" in the rebound column. And if you watched the game, it passed the eye test: the man looks completely exhausted.

You can't even fault him for it; he missed significant time, and his conditioning just isn't quite there yet to play 39 minutes of high-intensity playoff basketball.

Celtics vs 76ers Pick, Betting Analysis

Joel Embiid Under 8.5 Rebounds + Mineshaft

When Embiid returns from a long injury layoff, fading his rebounding has historically been a profitable angle. But the most damning data point from Game 4 wasn't the total; it was the rebounding chances.

Look at how Philadelphia’s chances were distributed:

Eight chances in 39 minutes. That is a brutal number for a superstar center. He only secured four of those eight opportunities.

His history against Boston this season is equally grim: he’s put up rebound totals of 6, 6, 10, and 4. That is an average of 6.3 rebounds per game over the last two seasons against this Celtics frontcourt.

I am also betting the mineshaft on this under. If this turns into a blowout or if Embiid simply can't stay on the floor due to fatigue, these alternate lines become gifts:

  • Under 6.5 Rebounds (+307): He’s hit this in 3 of 4 games vs. Boston this year.
  • Under 5.5 Rebounds (+546): The ultimate "exhaustion" play.

Embiid is a scoring force, but his legs aren't there to fight for boards against a desperate Boston team.

Celtics -5.5

I am a man of the numbers, and the numbers are screaming a very specific trend.

If you’ve been following us, you know we faded Boston in Game 5.

The trend was simple: since 2020, the Celtics after a double-digit win are a miserable 11-24 ATS. They didn't just fail to cover; they’ve now lost five straight outright in that spot. They screwed around and gave one away.

But here is why we are laying the points tonight: Since 2020, the Celtics are 17-5 against the spread when they are favored after losing a game as a favorite. That is a 77% hit rate, with Boston covering by an average of nearly five points a game.
