Yoshinobu Yamamoto Over 17.5 Outs (-110)
Dodgers vs Giants | 9:45 p.m. ET
After an auspicious start to his MLB career in South Korea, Yoshinobu Yamamoto has been lights out.
Over his last seven starts, he’s pitched to a 1.76 ERA. And since his pitch count has been built up, he’s completed at least six innings in each of his last four starts.
His best pitch is his split-finger fastball, which averages about 90 MPH. Opposing hitters are hitting .140 against the pitch with 20 strikeouts and a 35% whiff rate in 50 at-bats.
Yamamoto throws his splitter 28% of the time, his second most used pitch. The Giants rank 24th in weighted runs above average per 100 splitters seen (-1.31) and were similarly poor against the pitch last season (23rd, -1.09).
The Giants have struggled against righties lately, with an 84 wRC+ and .621 OPS against the side over the past two weeks. They’ve also been injured, losing outfielders Michael Conforto, Jorge Soler and Jung Hoo Lee to the injured list.
The Dodgers are coming off a short start from Walker Buehler yesterday and should lean on the highly-paid Japanese phenom for some length today.
I have Yamamoto getting through the sixth inning before he hits 90 pitches tonight.
