The San Francisco Giants got off to a great start in their home series against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday night with a 5-3 victory that came in walk-off fashion.
On Saturday evening, the Giants will utilize their bullpen to get through the ballgame — they're set to open the game with left-hander Erik Miller. Tyler Glasnow gets the ball for the Dodgers as he looks to continue his NL Cy Young push.
Given the stark pitching advantage with Glasnow on the hill, it's unsurprising to see the latest Giants vs Dodgers odds for Saturday have the Dodgers as -205 moneyline favorites, with an over/under of 7 (-120o / +100u). There is no questioning that the Dodgers are well deserved to be a heavy favorite in the contest. Tyler Glasnow is the main reason, as I alluded to in the intro. Glasnow has struck out 116 batters in 86 IP and sports a 0.94 WHIP on the season.
He also has outstanding numbers against the Giants' hitters in the past, as they are hitting. 140 over 43 at-bats against him. I do not see a world where Glasnow struggles on Saturday night.
The Dodgers offense should be able to provide plenty of run support on Saturday as well. The one intriguing aspect of that is that the game total implies that we are in for a low-scoring baseball game.
The Giants bullpen has been better as of late, but they are still a bottom unit in all of major league baseball. Since the Giants are going to heavily rely on the relief pitching, that will set up the Dodgers offense for run-scoring opportunities.
There’s no question that the Dodgers offense is not the same without Mookie Betts, but they have plenty of firepower to go around and I expect them to score plenty of runs for Glasnow tonight.
It’s hard to envision the Dodgers laying down against the Giants, so it might be a long night in San Francisco. The Giants already have a tall task at hand going up against Glasnow, but their career numbers against him make things much worse.
There are moments in time when Glasnow can get hit hard, but he has been in such a roll lately that I don't think the Giants offense is built to score. Enough runs to secure a win against the Dodgers.
The Giants bullpen has been better over the last couple of weeks, but I still don't trust them and think it is risky relying on them to provide a clean nine innings.
I think the Giants are big underdogs tonight for a reason, and I am not going to shy away from fading them here.
Giants vs. Dodgers
Betting Pick & Prediction
I rolled with the Dodgers run-line last weekend with Glasnow on the mound, and I am going right back to the well. Between the Giants rolling out their bottom-10 bullpen and their awful career numbers against Glasnow, there is no reason to believe they can keep the game close.
Even if Glasnow's night is cut short for whatever reason, the Dodgers pen has the 2nd best ERA in MLB. Do not overthink it, and I will ride with joe-public tonight due to all of the above variables.
