Let's dive into the Dodgers vs Giants Sunday odds and make an MLB prediction in our betting preview for June 30.
The Los Angeles Dodgers pulled out a thrilling extra-innings win on Saturday night to even their three-game set with the San Francisco Giants.
Today, it will be James Paxton on the mound for the Dodgers against San Francisco's Spencer Bivens. The market currently has the Dodgers as slight favorites on the moneyline at -130 odds, while the Giants sit as underdogs at around +115.
The over/under comes in at 9 at most shops, and it's not surprising given the 21-run outburst in yesterday's ballgame. Let's take a look at who has the upper hand in the rubber match in San Francisco.
Tyler Glasnow was the subject of some bad luck yesterday, and his command was not as sharp as usual. He allowed a couple of walks and a lot of ground-ball base hits that eventually led to his early departure.
Luckily for L.A., Glasnow's teammates bailed him out. The Dodgers scored four runs in one inning to take a 6-5 lead after his struggles before eventually winning in a wild extra-innings affair.
Paxton will take the mound for the Dodgers today, and he has started to falter after a terrific start to the season. His numbers were always inflated, but his 3.39 ERA is still lower than it actually should be.
Paxton still has decent movement on his fastball, but he's not getting enough batters to chase or swing and miss. His chase, whiff, strikeout and hard-hit rate are all below the 40th percentile among all MLB pitchers.
The Dodgers offense has to put up some runs today, and they have a good opportunity against Bivens. They've never faced Bivens in the past, but his minor-league numbers are less than impressive.
Despite a decent offensive matchup, I can't back the Dodgers with Paxton on the mound.
Saturday's loss was a tough one for the Giants, but the good news is that they have a quick turnaround to forget about it.
Unsurprisingly, I like the matchup for them against Paxton. The Giants are hitting .264 as a team against left-handed pitching on the season — roughly 30 points higher than their average against righties.
They're hitting .161 against Paxton over 59 at-bats in the past, but I wouldn't focus on that too much considering Paxton's downturn. The past version of Paxton from a few years ago is far superior to this current version.
Given the matchup against Paxton, the Giants offense has a great chance to score some runs today.
That's important because they'll need all the offense they can get with Bivens on the mound.
Bivens has 11 strikeouts in nine innings of work thus far, but the Giants may ask him to pitch deeper into the game than he's accustomed to. Both teams used a lot of their bullpens yesterday, so there are a lot of tired arms that may not be available.

Betting Pick & Prediction
I like the Giants to exact revenge and wrap up a series win at home.
The offense should chase Paxton out of the game early despite its weak history against him.
It's tough to handicap how well Bivens will pitch today, but I don't think it'll matter too much. The offensive matchup for the Giants is the biggest variable in the ballgame, and I love the fact that they destroy left-handed pitching.
I'll take a shot with the short home underdog here.
