Diamondbacks vs Cubs Expert MLB Picks
Story: Ketel Marte to Explode on Friday Afternoon
The Cubs are set to host the Diamondbacks on Friday afternoon in the first of a three-game homestand at Wrigley Field in Chicago.
Cubs’ righty Colin Rea is set to take the mound after a relatively up-and-down start to his 2026 campaign.
For the Snakes, veteran starting pitcher Zach Gallen will be on the bump, looking to build upon a stellar start to his season thus far.
Below, I will briefly break down this matchup and provide a “same-game-parlay” betting angle that you can take ahead of Friday afternoon’s National League showdown at Wrigley.

Arizona Diamondbacks Player Prop: Ketel Marte Over 1.5 Total Bases
For the first leg of our SGP ahead of Friday’s contest, I will be looking to take a shot on Diamondbacks’ slugger Ketel Marte to exceed his 1.5 total base mark.
I definitely have some concerns in regard to Rea’s form thus far, as the Cubs’ right-hander is currently running an abysmal 4.61 ERA. The 35-year-old is struggling with his command in an already dwindling pitching arsenal, resulting from a significant drop in velocity.
Now, Rea is set to face an Arizona lineup that has been scorching as of late — and I worry about his ability to keep hitters off of the basepaths.
While Arizona’s superstar second baseman has gotten off to a relatively slow start to the season thus far, I am not worried in the slightest about Marte, who has proven himself as one of the league's best hitters.
Marte is a high-contact switch-hitter with tremendous bat speed and power on both sides of the plate, averaging over 30 homers over the last three years.
Though Ketel was initially touted as more of a speedster when he was a young prospect, the Diamondbacks' three-time All-Star put on a ton of muscle that resulted in a complete transformation of his hitters’ profile as his slugging metrics soared over the next few seasons.
In addition to his much-improved slugging metrics, Ketel has absolutely dominated Rea — in six career head-to-head at-bats, the Arizona slugger has recorded four hits, a double, and two homers.
Given Marte's dominance over Rea and Rea’s mediocre form, I feel great backing the Snakes' slugger.

Moneyline Picks: Diamondbacks F5 Moneyline
Though the Cubs have been the far better team over the first month of the season, and are also set to play at their home ballpark on Friday, I think the Diamondbacks have the clear starting-pitching edge in this matchup.
While we have already touched on Rea's command issues, Zac Gallen has had a marvelous start to his 2026 campaign.
Over his first six starts of the season, Gallen has allowed just six earned runs across 29 innings, currently running a rather impressive 3.14 ERA.
Given that Arizona’s ace has played in the National League for the entirety of his career, Gallen has allowed 30 hits across 134 previous at-bats against this Cubs’ lineup.
Michael Busch is the only player in this Chicago lineup who has gotten the best of Gallen across their prior encounters, likely due to the fact that Gallen has had far more difficulty facing left-handed hitters.
Chicago’s lineup has recorded just a .224 average versus Gallen, and I expect those struggles at the plate to continue on Friday.
For the second leg of our SGP, I will be looking to back Arizona on the F5 ML given its significant pitching edge.
- Ketel Marte Over 1.5 Total Bases
- Diamondbacks F5 ML
Parlay Odds: +225 (FanDuel)
