The Cubs cleaned house ahead of the trade deadline last season, shipping Javier Baez (Mets) and Anthony Rizzo (Yankees) to New York, and Kris Bryant to San Francisco, marking the end of an era in Chicago. All three guys were big contributors to the Cubs' run to their first World Series title in 108 years back in 2016 -- Baez was named NLCS MVP that season.
But now we're here. Chicago ended their season 71-91 and are in rebuild mode to try and get back to the playoffs and beyond. Prior to the offseason lockout, the Cubs were able to add a potential ace in Marcus Stroman, who signed a three-year deal to come to Chicago. Outfielder Clint Frazier will have a clean slate and try to recreate the potential so many saw in him while he was a prospect for the Yankees.
The Cubs continue to be connected to several free agents as the MLB lockout has come to a conclusion. Will they make any more moves ahead of the 2022 season?
Betting on the Chicago Cubs
Cubs Spread (Run Line)
Betting point spreads are wagers based on the expectation that a team will win or lose by a certain number of points -- or in baseball's case, runs. The Cubs went 71-91 overall and went 82-80 against the run line. Here’s an example:
- Twins +1.5 (+110)
- Cubs -1.5 (-110)
In this situation, the Twins are 1.5 run underdogs against the Cubs. If Chicago wins the game by two or more runs, a $100 wager on the Cubs would come with a payout of $90.91. If Minnesota won the game outright or lost by one run or less, the same $100 wager would net $110 plus the original $100 for a total of $210.
Note: run lines in baseball are typically low considering the low scoring nature of the game, so odds on lines could vary significantly even if the run totals are similar.

Cubs Over/Unders
Over/under, also called point total, is a wager placed on the combined scoring of a single game. Bookmakers come up with a number and you can either bet the over or — you guessed it — the under. Here’s how it works:
Let's say the Brewers play the Cubs and the over/under is set at 7.5 runs. A wager on the over would require Milwaukee and Chicago to score eight total runs or more to win. Betting the under is an expectation that the two teams would score seven or fewer runs. It's also possible for the bet to push, which would happen if the line was a whole number like seven, and the game finished with exactly seven runs scored.
In 2021, The Cubs were a near the middle of the pack team when it came to exceeding point totals, going 77-78-7 against the over.

Cubs Moneylines
Chicago was a difficult team to pick when betting the moneyline in 2021. The Cubs were an awful team to bet the moneyline on throughout the season besides for a solid stretch between the end of August and early September. They finished the 2021 season 71-91.
Check out this example on betting the moneyline:
- Cubs -120
- Tigers +130
The minus (-) and plus (+) signs distinguish the favorite from the underdog, making Chicago the favorite in this scenario. Odds can be understood more clearly if you think in terms of $10 or $100 increments. A wager on the Cubs odds would mean every $120 bet nets $100. And it's the opposite for underdogs: Here the Tigers moneyline was set at +130, meaning a $100 wager would profit $130.
Moneylines are also commonly used when making parlays, which are multiple bets tied into one. Let’s say you bet the Cubs moneyline and a -1.5 run line, Chicago would need to win by two runs or more for that bet to be successful. The risk is greater, but so is the reward with increased odds. Use our Odds Calculator to calculate any bet amount or conversion.

Cubs Props
Player props are wagers on a single player, and they're tied to a single stat found in the box score for a game or even the whole season. These are among the most fun to bet on, especially if you're already playing fantasy baseball and like the player-specific focus it offers. Check out a hypothetical example below:
- Ian Happ Home Runs: 20.5

Cubs Futures
Futures are somewhat similar to prop bets in the way that both are monitored over the course of a season. Except most future bets are focused on end of season success. Examples of futures are:
- Chicago Cubs odds to win the NL Central
- Chicago Cubs odds to win the NL
- Chicago Cubs odds to win the World Series
- Marcus Stroman's odds to win NL Cy Young
If you’re confident that the Cubs can win the NL or that Stroman will be the best pitcher in the league, this is the place to be. For a full list of MLB futures, click or tap here.
