John Feltman’s Tigers vs Rockies Preview
Jackson Jobe is off to a decent start in 2025, as the rookie enters tonight's ballgame with a 3.38 ERA. He only has 18 punchouts in 24 IP, but does a good job at keeping the ball on the ground.
It's an excellent matchup for Jobe against one of the worst teams in baseball. Coors Field is typically a pitcher's nightmare, but given how bad the Rockies' offense has been, it should not factor in too much.
I also like the matchup for the Detroit offense. They are fifth in baseball in runs scored per game, and they face Chase Dollander, who has been a hitter-friendly pitcher thus far.
Dollander tends to give up a lot of hard contact and has trouble generating chases and whiffs. That sets up the Tigers for an excellent offensive night and an ideal hitting environment.
Although I have been impressed with Jobe, his numbers are slightly inflated. He does not strike out as many hitters as I would like, and that is not a great sign when you can get hurt by allowing too many balls in play at Coors Field.
It’s an excellent matchup for Jobe, but I’m still concerned about his metrics, making it too steep to pay on the money line.
It’s hard to find many positives for the Colorado Rockies these days, as they are clearly the worst team in baseball. Not just by their overall record, but if you look at their roster, it is hands-down the worst roster in baseball.
It does not help that they play in one of the toughest divisions in all of baseball, but even if they were in a slightly less talented one, they would still be the doormat and the favorite to finish last.
Chase Dollander brings some decent strikeout stuff to the table, but for someone who pitches in Colorado, he allows far too much hard contact. The Tigers are fifth in baseball in runs scored, so tonight’s matchup does not get any easier for him.
Besides, Dollander gave up a lot of hard contact, and I cannot count on the Rockies' offense to provide any support. The Rockies are averaging three runs scored per game, which is last in Major League Baseball.
The batting splits are slightly better at home, but not enough to make a difference. Unfortunately, this is just a very bad baseball team, and it is very difficult to bet on or find value in a team like this.
However, the alternate approach is to fade them consistently throughout the season, and you would be pretty profitable if you had done that thus far. The office could break through against Jobe since he is due for regression, but that is not enough to sell me on backing Colorado tonight.
Tigers vs Rockies Prediction, Betting Analysis
I struck out last night with the Toronto Blue Jays team total over, as they fell short, despite scoring two quick runs in the first inning. But, I am going back to the well tonight. This is a good spot to take the total of the Tigers' team.
Like I mentioned above, Dollander gives up far too much hard contact, which is not a great sign, especially in such a terrific hitters' park. Even if Dollander is somewhat effective through the early portion of the game, the Rockies' bullpen is an outright disaster. I would not sweat throughout the game, even if Dollander comes out and fires a solid outing.
I’m not overthinking this one, and I’ll back the Tigers' offense to do damage tonight.
