Tottenham  vs. Manchester United
Since Michael Carrick's appointment, United have seemingly found their stride, with three consecutive wins and eight goals scored. The Red Devils also rank third in the league in goals per game (1.8) and 43.1 xG (expected goals), placing them behind just Chelsea and City in this metric.
However, their defensive issues are hard to address in such a short period, and with just three clean sheets this season, we can expect the visitors to create chances. Tottenham have failed to score in just two away Premier League games this season.
Interestingly, the Spurs have performed better defensively away from home, securing five clean sheets in 12 matches. However, we're backing United to take the win, even if their defense allows Tottenham a foot in the door.
Pick: Manchester United To Win and Both Teams To Score – Yes
Aston Villa vs. AFC Bournemouth
Aston Villa have been excellent this season, and currently occupy third place in the Premier League. However, their form has dipped of late, so we are backing Bournemouth, who are the slight underdog here.Â
Villa have won just two of their last six league matches, losing three. Unai Emery’s side has drastically overperformed the underlying data this season, with OPTA’s xPTS (expected points) indicating their performances have been indicative of a bottom-half team.Â
Bournemouth ranks above Aston Villa in terms of xG (expected goals) and has beaten Liverpool and Tottenham in their last two home matches. Andoni Iraola’s side looks as though they can put a solid run together, and they are capable of upsetting the odds and beating Villa here.Â
Pick: Bournemouth To Win
Sunderland vs. Arsenal
Although Sunderland’s away form leaves a lot to be desired, the odds on an Arsenal clean sheet are very short, especially with Mikel Arteta’s side leaking goals in their recent matches at the Emirates.Â
Arsenal have kept just two clean sheets in their last 10 home matches across all competitions, conceding an average of 1.1 goals per game. Nevertheless, Arteta’s side have gone on to win seven of those matches.Â
Sunderland have scored in five of their last six competitive matches and three of their last four away matches.Â
Regis Le Bris’ side drew 2-2 with Arsenal earlier in the season, despite having an xG (expected goals) of just 0.44. They are unlikely to be as clinical at the Emirates, so we are backing a home win and both teams to score here.
Pick: Arsenal To Win & Both Teams To Score – Yes
Brentford vs. Newcastle United
Brentford represents a tough test for Newcastle, but Eddie Howe’s side has a strong home record this season. Newcastle have lost just three of their 12 league matches at St. James’ Park this season, winning seven and scoring 1.83 goals per game on average.
Brentford have lost eight of their 12 away league games this season. Since earning promotion to the Premier League, Brentford have failed to win any of their five competitive away games against Newcastle (including a League Cup clash in December 2024), losing four.
Eddie Howe’s side haven’t lost three consecutive league games since the 2023/24 season, so we should expect a response here.
