Seahawks vs Rams Preview, Prediction
Over the past four weeks, the Rams have been using 13 personnel on 40% of their snaps; the Seahawks have been good against defending that type of formation.
I think this will be a back-and-forth game; both offenses are real. They keep showing it.
The difference might end up being the Rams defense, which I think is overrated. They can get pressure, they're good against the run (the Seahawks can't really run the ball efficiently anyway), but I think L.A.'s secondary is overrated.
If you look over the past two months, the Rams played the Texans and the Titans to start the year. You can throw out those two games given the states of those offensive lines and what those offenses looked like at that time.
The Rams somehow gave up 27 to the Eagles in the second half. They should have given up 30+ points to the Colts; they had that dropped Adonai Mitchell target that brought back a Taylor touchdown.
The Rams also got carved up twice by Mac Jones, who threw for at least 300 yards in each of those games with five touchdowns — the Rams split those games against a banged-up 49ers team. And then there were other games like that in between those 49ers games, which I think are unjustly pulling up the team’s defensive metrics.
I thought of this as schedule-based. They played Cooper Rush and the Ravens, that helps. They played Tyler Shough and the Saints, and then with the Jaguars, they were going up and down the field, but they just couldn't punch it in.
Seahawks vs Rams Predictions, Moneyline Best Bet
I think the Rams secondary is vulnerable, so I think there's going to be opportunities for both teams to move the ball here.
There's a case to be made that the Seahawks defense is actually underrated, because we know they can get pressure without blitzing.
We know how good Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald is. We know how good this team has been on the road under Macdonald as well.
But the Seahawks were also dealing with serious injuries in the secondary for a long stretch of the season. Now, they are much healthier on that front, and they've had some new guys emerge.
Trading for Rashid Shaheed helps in this spot because the Rams are a little shaky at cornerback, and the Seahawks are not going to win every game in 1-2 personnel.
And for the Rams, Davante Adams tweaked his oblique last game and is expected to play — but we don't know how he'll fare with a tricky injury like that.
If Adams can't go (or is less than 100% healthy), that would make the Rams far more one-dimensional. I know the Rams have their tight ends, but the Seahawks can defend that.
I think the Rams are the rightful favorite in this game, but I also believe that this has a chance to be a back-and-forth game where the last team with the ball wins.
Pick: Seahawks Moneyline (+145)
