Seahawks vs Jaguars Preview, Prediction

I love the Jaguars; I’ve been betting on them all year … but this feels like the right time to fade them.

Let’s start with turnover regression. It's coming.

The Jaguars defense can't keep living off pick-6s and takeaways every week. They lead the league by a wide margin in EPA generated off turnovers.

On top of that, the Jaguars offense is dealing with injuries along the offensive line, and losing TE Brenton Strange to IR is quite a big deal. Add in a short week after a thrilling win against the Chiefs on Monday Night Football, and this looks like a potential flat spot for the Jaguars.

The Seahawks, on the other hand, should be healthier than they've been the last few weeks.

Last week against the Buccaneers, the Seahawks defense was in shambles. But now, there’s good news as head coach Mike Macdonald confirmed both Devon Witherspoon and DeMarcus Lawrence returned to practice this week. Julian Love also returned to practice, but he seems less likely to give it a go. Even if Love doesn’t play, getting Witherspoon and Lawrence back would be huge.

The Jaguars' running game likely won't find much room to operate here. Trevor Lawrence hasn’t been particularly sharp, and the offense is heavily scheme-dependent under head coach Liam Coen.

Meanwhile, Sam Darnold has been flat-out excellent this season. He ranks No. 1 in EPA + CPOE, success rate and adjusted EPA per play – and he’s been the league’s best quarterback against zone coverage.

That should bode well against a Jaguars defense that plays a ton of zone, and without edge rusher Travon Walker, who’s expected to sit again, this defense loses its best source of pressure.

In last week's game without Walker, Jacksonville’s pressure rate fell off a cliff to a season-low 23.9%, while allowing a 64% success rate.

Seahawks vs Jaguars Prediction, Spread Pick

What do we have here?

We have a red-hot Seahawks offense led by Sam Darnold facing a banged-up, turnover-reliant Jaguars defense that is losing its ability to generate pressure on opposing quarterbacks.

We also have a healthier Seahawks defense that matches up well against a Jaguars offense that still hasn’t found a rhythm on the ground yet.

Add it all up for the Jaguars: short week, regression looming, key defensive injuries – and this line feels off.

Pick: Seahawks +1.5 (-118)
