Bears vs 49ers Spread Prediction
The Bears are coming off an emotional victory over their rivals in the Packers, and they are susceptible to a let-down spot tonight.
Even if Chicago plays up to the level we have seen them capable of recently, this is still a team that has six fourth-quarter comeback victories. Against a 49ers offense that is playing their best football, the chance at another comeback is quite low if they fall behind once more.
The Bears defense has surrendered 2.6 points per drive on the road this season, which ranks 30th in the league. A major issue for this defense that will plague them moving forward is their inability to create pressure with their pass rush. The Bears have generated pressure at just a 31% rate this season — the fifth-lowest mark in the NFL.
Kyle Shanahan’s system boasts the best passing success rate in the league this season, and he has done it with both Mac Jones and Brock Purdy. The 49ers' passing attack should remain incredibly efficient against a Chicago defense that ranks 28th in completion percentage over expectation. Purdy will operate from a clean pocket again and he has looked razor sharp over his previous two outings.
In a game that should feature plenty of red-zone opportunities, laying the three points with the Niners at home feels more than reasonable.
Pick: 49ers -3 (-112)
Bears vs 49ers Over/Under Pick
By Billy Ward
While the Bears and 49ers have clinched playoff spots, they still have plenty to play for in regards to seeding — an outside shot at the No. 1 seed is still on the table for both.
They’ve also both hit their strides offensively at the right time. The 49ers have averaged 34.4 points per game in the five games since Brock Purdy returned to the lineup, bailing out a suspect defense that ranks 24th in DVOA and has allowed both the Titans and the Phillip Rivers-led Colts to score at least 24 points over the past two weeks.
The 49ers are facing a much tougher offense tonight with the Bears, who have also clicked down the stretch as their young team figures out how to run head coach Ben Johnson’s offense. Chicago is now a top-10 scoring offense, but a well below-average defense by both DVOA and scoring.
Plus, this game is in San Francisco, which means relatively mild Bay Area weather, rather than the cold and windy home conditions Chicago has faced recently. That’s another boost to the Bears offense, as they’ve consistently had cold and/or windy conditions over the past six or so weeks with their only road games being in Philadelphia and Green Bay.
I’m anticipating a shootout, so I’ll take the over even with the heavy line movement upward. The best line available at the time of writing is over 52 at -113 via BetRivers, but I’m fine with the 52.5 lines at lower juice as well.
Pick: Under 51.5 (-110)
Bears Anytime TD Pick: Luther Burden
By Sean Koerner
I'm going with my guy Luthen Burden III in the anytime touchdown market.
He didn't play last week because of an ankle injury, but he got in a full practice on Friday and carries no injury designation.
Burden has the makings of being a potential stud in this league for years to come. He has Caleb Williams' attention too, with at least five targets in the last five games he's played (29 targets overall).
The 49ers defense is beat up and just let a 44-year-old Philip Rivers throw the ball all over them.
Pick: Luther Burden III Anytime Touchdown (+220)
49ers Touchdown Pick: Jauan Jennings
By Chris Raybon
How can you not keep riding the Jauan Jennings hot streak in this spot?
He has seven touchdowns in his last seven games five of those touchdowns have come in his last four games. He's also scored a touchdown in four straight games.
Jennings' connection with Brock Purdy is strong — and don't forget Jennings always had a reputation for being a late-down, money-down target. If George Kittle is sidelined for this game, that also benefits him.
Pick: Jauan Jennings Anytime Touchdown Scorer (+145)
