UTSA vs Texas A&M Preview

UTSA Preview: Under the Radar Unit
The Roadrunners are one of my favorite under-the-radar teams entering the 2025 season. This offense has a chance to be sensational, and there's a lot of reasons to buy into the hype.
First and foremost, quarterback Owen McCown and almost every offensive starter return. Despite starting 2-4 last season, UTSA heated up and went on an offensive tear to end the year, finishing with a 6-6 record.
The running back room is intense, along with many talented wide receivers. The tight end position is four deep, with all four standing 6-foot-4 or taller with pass-catching abilities.
The offensive line returns 120 starts and seven guys have started at least nine-plus games in a season. If you love offense, this will be the team to watch in the Group of 5.
Defensively, it could be a completely different story. They struggled mightily last season, but head coach Jeff Traylor believes they can improve from a year ago.
This isn't an ideal matchup for a unit that struggled in 2024, but the defense can't be any worse. I wouldn't expect UTSA to gain any progress in that department against the Aggies, but as the year progresses, I envision the unit being better.
With the potential of this offense — despite the massive talent mismatch — I wouldn't be surprised to see the Roadrunners hang tough with the Aggies.
Our Acton Network projections make the spread Texas A&M -18, which means UTSA is a value buy at +24.

Texas A&M Preview: Foot Coming Off the Gas Late?
I love this Aggies team led by head coach Mike Elko, and it could be in line for a special season in College Station. There's a lot to like about both sides of the ball, and the Aggies will clearly have the talent edge in this duel.
The Aggies bring in the No. 5 recruiting class and a top-10 transfer class. The offensive line brings back five key pieces, and I love that they brought in electric wide receiver KC Concepcion and Mario Craver.
They also have their top-six tacklers returning on defense, and they should have an upgraded secondary. I have some questions about their pass rush, but they brought in a lot of transfers to address that hole.
Their offense will be led by quarterback Marcel Reed, who played well when Conner Weigman was unavailable last year. Le'Veon Moss' RB room is absolutely loaded, and they have a strong group of pass catchers.
There's no better way to kick off the 2025 season than to face one of the worst defenses in the FBS from a season ago. Even if the UTSA defense improves from last year, there's still a long way to go before returning to a respectable level, and I doubt that will occur right away.
I expect a massive showing from the Aggies in front of their home crowd to kick off their 2025 campaign, but I have concerns that they could let their foot off the gas late.
Also, I don't think the market realizes how talented the UTSA offense is.

UTSA vs Texas A&M Pick
This number is far too large, and I'm happy to take the 24 points with the Roadrunners here.
UTSA's offense has the potential to be one of the best in the entire nation, and I still have questions about the Texas A&M pass rush.
It won't be an easy matchup for the UTSA offense, as I like many of the pieces in the A&M secondary. However, I can see Elko shutting things down late, which leaves a lot of potential for a backdoor cover for the Roadrunners.
I love the Aggies' makeup, but this is far too many points to bet. I'm not expecting an outright victory for the Roadrunners, but I don't expect them to be completely tormented.
