Hokies 2025 Schedule & Betting Odds
Virginia Tech Hokies 2024 Season Preview
Virginia Tech has hovered in the middle of the ACC over the past two seasons, winning seven and six games, respectively. Last season, they fell 24-10 to Minnesota in the Duke’s Mayo Bowl. Can they make a run in the ACC this year?
QB Kyron Drones looks to rebound after a disappointing season in which he threw 10 touchdowns and six interceptions. In 2023, he had 17 passing touchdowns and only three interceptions. RB Terion Stewart joins the Hokies after four seasons at Bowling Green, where he recorded a career-high 898 rushing yards and six touchdowns last year. In the passing game, Drones relies on WR transfers Donavon Greene and Cameron Seldon.
Defense posed a challenge for Virginia Tech last season, as the team allowed the third-most points in the ACC. The unit aims for another strong season, likely starting four transfers on that side of the ball.
Head coach Brent Pry enters his fourth season and looks to lead the Hokies to their first 8+ win season since 2019.
Virginia Tech Hokies Point Spreads
The most common type of bet in the U.S. is the spread bet, which wagers on a football team’s winning margin. Here’s an example:
- Virginia Tech +7 (-110)
- South Carolina -7 (-110)
The favored team, indicated by the minus sign, must win by more than the spread to cover. The underdog, marked with a plus sign, covers by either winning the game or losing by less than the spread. When the spread is a whole number, as in this example (though spreads often include half points), bets on both sides can tie—if Virginia Tech loses by exactly seven points.
Virginia Tech Hokies Over/Unders
Totals, or over/unders, are bets on how many points both teams score in a game. Winners and losers don’t matter—only the points count.
For example, bookmakers set a 49-point total for the Hokies vs. Gamecocks game. If the game ends with a low score, bettors who chose “under” win. To win an “over” bet, the teams must combine for at least 50 points. If the total hits exactly 49, the bet results in a push, and bookmakers return stakes to all bettors.
Virginia Tech Moneylines
Moneylines are a way to bet just on which team wins the game, regardless of margin. Just like with spread bets, teams expected to lose have a plus sign by their moneyline odds, and teams expected to win have a minus sign. Unlike spread bets, the number after the sign represents the payouts of the bet, not the number of points.
Let's look at an example again:
- Virginia Tech +225
- South Carolina -280
- In this case, $280 wagers on the favorites profit $100, while $100 wagers on the underdog profit $225.
Virginia Tech Props
For fantasy football fans, proposition (or prop) bets offer a fun way to bet on the Hokies. Player props let you place over/under bets on individual players.
Virginia Tech Futures
Expect the Hokies to have a strong season but don’t want to bet on individual games? You can bet the over on their season win total, a type of futures bet. Futures wagers cover the entire season and pay out once the results are determined.
Other Hokies futures include odds to win the ACC, national title chances, and awards markets for specific players, such as the Heisman Trophy.
