Bearkats 2025 Schedule & Betting Odds
Sam Houston State Bearkats Football 2025
The Sam Houston Bearkats are entering their third full season as an FBS program and looking to take the next step after finishing 3–9 in 2024. Though the record may not jump off the page, the Bearkats were far more competitive than expected in Conference USA play and ended the year with several close losses that could've gone either way.
Head coach K.C. Keeler continues to lay the foundation for long-term success, and a more experienced roster in 2025 gives fans and bettors reason for optimism. At quarterback, Grant Gunnell and Hunter Watson both saw action in 2024, but Watson is expected to take the reins full-time. RB John Gentry returns after leading the team in rushing and will once again be key to Sam Houston’s ground game.
Defensively, the Bearkats have been scrappy and fast, ranking in the middle of the pack in Conference USA for both sacks and third-down defense. With a deeper roster and lighter non-conference slate, Sam Houston could realistically push for bowl eligibility in 2025 — something that seemed far off just a year ago.

Sam Houston Point Spreads
Point spreads are a popular bet one can make on either team in a college football game and are based on the margin of victory for the winning team.
A Sam Houston spread might look like this:
- Sam Houston +3.5 (-110)
- New Mexico State -3.5 (-110)
A 31-28 loss for Sam Houston is still a win for spread bettors since the three-point margin of defeat is less than the 3.5-point spread. Spread tickets on the Bearkats would cash with any loss of three or fewer points, or an outright win.

Sam Houston Over/Unders
Over/unders, or totals, are bets on the number of points scored in the game. Sam Houston was an even 6-6 to the Over in the regular season in 2023.

Sam Houston Moneylines
While spread bets depend on the amount of the victory, moneyline bets are a bit simpler, as all that matters is which team wins. Let's look at an example:
- Sam Houston -160
- UTEP +180
The minus (-) and plus (+) signs distinguish the favorite from the underdog, making Sam Houston the favorite in this scenario. Odds can be understood more clearly if you think in terms of $100 increments. A wager on the Bearkats odds would mean every $160 bet nets $100. And it's the opposite for underdogs: Here, the UTEP moneyline was set at +180, meaning a $100 wager would profit $180.
Moneylines are also commonly used when making parlays, which are multiple bets tied into one. Let’s say you bet on Sam Houston's moneyline and the Over, both bets would need to win for that parlay to be successful. The risk may be greater, but so is the reward with increased odds. Sam Houston Props
Player props are bets on how much of a specific statistic a player will accumulate.
For example, you could bet on how many touchdown passes QB Hunter Watson will throw in a game or bet over or under on RB John Gentry's rushing yards. Many skill position players (and some defenders) will have a variety of props available to bet each game.

Sam Houston Futures
Futures are somewhat similar to prop bets in the way both are monitored over the course of a season. However, most future bets are focused on end of season success. Examples of futures are:
- Sam Houston odds to win Conference USA
- Sam Houston odds to reach the College Football Playoff
If you think the Bearkats can win the Conference USA championship this season, this is the bet to make. These types of bets are called futures, and they're just wagers on things that settle at the end of the year.
