UMass vs Miami (OH) College Basketball Betting Preview

I project the RedHawks as 10.7-point home favorites with an 164.2-point total, so I show no value on either the spread or over/under for this matchup.

That said, if I had to pick a side in this game, I’d likely look toward taking the points with the Minutemen.

Per Synergy, the RedHawks have overperformed their jump-shot quality by .23 PPP, one of the highest marks in the nation. They also rank in the top 20 nationally in KenPom’s Luck metric, likely because of their 3-0 record in overtime.

Ultimately, Miami (OH) is due for some regression, as any 20-0 team is, and I think the numbers are slightly overvaluing the RedHawks.

Is UMass the team to force that regression? Potentially. The Minutemen are OK in ball-screen coverage (important against Miami) and can score via cuts and posts on the other end (also important against Miami).

That said, it’s hard to trust a team with a -5.6% 2-point shooting delta in MAC play.

My Pick: PASS | Lean UMass +10 or Better
